Hyundai is initiating a recall for over 225,000 vehicles due to a potential failure in the rearview camera system.
The recall, which was submitted by Hyundai on November 21 and later posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Wednesday, includes six different vehicle models from the Santa Fe and Elantra lines.
“An inoperative rearview camera will reduce rearward visibility while driving in reverse, increasing the risk of injury to bystanders,” the NHTSA stated in its recall notice.
Owners of the affected vehicles can visit a Hyundai dealership to have their rearview cameras replaced. The company will notify owners by mail if their vehicle is part of the recall.
Hyundai Recall Details
The NHTSA has identified the following vehicles as potentially having defective rearview cameras:
- 2021-2022 Hyundai Santa Fe
- 2021-2022 Hyundai Elantra
- 2022 Hyundai Elantra N
- 2021-2022 Hyundai Elantra HEV
- 2021-2022 Hyundai Santa Fe HEV
- 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHV
The issue stems from the rearview cameras being manufactured with an inadequate number of solder joints on the printed circuit board, a defect that could deteriorate over time.
