Porsche has announced a comprehensive software update for its Taycan electric vehicle, which will bring all variants up to the 2023 model year, regardless of the vehicle’s age, engine configuration, or body type. This update is designed to enhance the functionality and performance of the Taycan across the board, with older models expected to see the most significant benefits. Each car’s specific upgrade requirements, including potential workshop visits, will depend on its current software status.

A major improvement in the update involves the powertrain, especially for all-wheel-drive (AWD) Taycans. In both ‘normal’ and ‘range’ driving modes, the front motor will be almost entirely disconnected and de-energized under partial load conditions, reducing energy consumption. When coasting or at a standstill, neither axle will deliver drive torque, further enhancing efficiency. Additionally, an energy-flow indicator replaces the AWD display in the central console, providing drivers with a clearer visualization of power distribution.

Battery management also sees notable enhancements. Energy recuperation has been optimized, and battery conditioning has improved, particularly in cold weather. Excess heat generated by electrical components will now be used to maintain the battery’s optimal temperature more effectively, ensuring better performance and range in a variety of conditions. These updates underline Porsche’s commitment to maximizing the efficiency and usability of the Taycan.

Additional features include the ability for Taycan owners to retrofit a 22kW onboard charger, though this comes at an extra cost. The update also brings subtle but significant improvements to the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and Porsche Connect systems. These enhancements include a refreshed start screen design, Spotify integration, improved voice control, enhanced satellite navigation displayed on the heads-up display, expanded range for ParkAssist, and, where available, the option for keyless entry on request.

Kevin Giek, the Vice President of the Taycan model line, emphasized the transformative nature of this update. He noted that early Taycan adopters would be impressed by how much their vehicles have evolved since production began. This update reflects Porsche’s ongoing dedication to innovation and ensuring its vehicles remain competitive and state-of-the-art throughout their lifecycle.
