The 1969 Dodge Super Bee A12 is a standout muscle car from the peak of American performance vehicle history. It is part of Dodge’s A12 package, which was specifically created to provide remarkable speed and handling.
The original Dodge Super Bee was built on the Dodge Coronet two-door coupe platform and was produced from 1968 to 1970.
It represented Dodge’s affordable high-performance muscle car, essentially a rebadged version of the Plymouth Road Runner.
The name “Super Bee” is derived from Chrysler’s “B” Body designation, which was used for its mid-sized cars, such as the Road Runner and Charger.
While the Super Bee and Road Runner shared a similar exterior look, the Super Bee was slightly heavier by 65 pounds and had a 117-inch wheelbase, compared to the 116-inch wheelbase of the Road Runner.
Along with subtle exterior differences, including larger rear wheel openings, the signature bumblebee tail stripe, a more ornate grille, and distinct taillight ornamentation, the Super Bee also featured chrome-plated diecast “Bee” medallions.
These three-dimensional medallions were prominently mounted in raised positions on the grille/hood and the trunk lid/taillight area during the first three years of production.
Midway through 1969, Dodge introduced a “six-pack” version of its 440 cu in (7.2 L) engine, equipped with three two-barrel Holley carburetors.
This version was rated at 390 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque. The option code for this setup was A12, which also altered the fifth digit of the vehicle’s VIN to M.
These special 1969 1/2 Dodge Super Bees, equipped with the A12 package, are commonly referred to as A12 M-code cars.
The A12 package equipped these cars with a Dana 60 axle featuring a 4:10 gear ratio, a heavy-duty automatic transmission or a 4-speed manual transmission, and a ‘lift-off’ flat black scooped hood.
Other A12 package features included heavy-duty internal engine components, black steel wheels with high-performance G-70 15″ tires, and heavy-duty 11″ drum brakes. Only 1,907 A12 M-code 440 Six Pack 1969 1/2 Dodge Super Bees were produced.
Undoubtedly, the A12 is one of the most desirable Super Bee models, and this remarkable example, finished in F6 Bright Green Metallic, is as pristine as they come.
