The Ferrari SF90 XX, unveiled at the iconic Pista di Fiorano racetrack, stands as a testament to Ferrari’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance. Borrowing the double-X designation typically reserved for track-only models, the SF90 XX bridges the gap between a racing car and a road-legal Ferrari sports car. This special edition elevates the SF90’s capabilities with a lighter build, enhanced aerodynamics, and increased power output, representing Ferrari’s most extreme yet street-legal innovation.

The SF90 XX retains the plug-in hybrid powertrain of the standard SF90 but with significant upgrades. Its twin-turbocharged V-8 engine has been refined with polished inlet and exhaust ports, new pistons, and a higher compression ratio, delivering 786 horsepower—a 17 hp increase. Combined with the electric motor’s Extra Boost feature, total system output rises to an impressive 1016 horsepower. The Extra Boost function, available in Qualify mode, enhances corner exit speed and provides a thrilling driving experience, although it depletes the battery after 30 uses.

Gearbox, Sound, and Speed Enhancements

Ferrari has also reworked the SF90 XX’s eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, introducing new shift logic inspired by the Daytona SP3. The accompanying exhaust note has been tuned for a raw, race-like auditory experience, amplified through a redesigned tube into the cabin. With a Ferrari-claimed zero-to-62-mph time of 2.3 seconds, the SF90 XX edges out the standard SF90, which was recorded to achieve 0-62 mph in an unprecedented 2.0 seconds during previous tests.

Aerodynamic advancements define the SF90 XX, with Ferrari focusing on achieving optimal downforce. A redesigned fixed rear wing works in tandem with the active rear spoiler to generate up to 1168 pounds of downforce at 155 mph—a notable improvement from the SF90 Stradale’s 860 pounds. Additional aero enhancements include nostrils on the hood to redirect hot air, flipped radiators for a smoother underbody, and innovative cooling systems for the V-8 and electrical components, ensuring peak performance.

Longtail Design and Lightweight Interiors

The SF90 XX’s elongated rear end, necessitated by the fixed rear wing, gives it a striking longtail silhouette. Contrasting paint accents the hood’s new outlets, while fender-mounted air inlets inspire the cabin’s door-panel design. The interior prioritizes weight savings with carbon fiber monocoque bucket seats and a simplified center console adorned with matte-finished carbon fiber. Cleverly designed adjustable seats and repositioned controls enhance the driving experience while maintaining a racing aesthetic.

Ferrari plans to produce only 799 SF90 XX Stradale coupes and 599 SF90 XX Spiders, all of which have already been sold. With prices starting at approximately $844,000 for the coupe and $932,000 for the Spider, the SF90 XX is a prized collector’s item. Despite Ferrari’s silence on North American allocations, these limited-edition vehicles are certain to remain sought-after icons of automotive excellence worldwide.
