Automakers seemed to have fared well in 2025, at least when it came to U.S. sales figures. Most major manufacturers ended the year with gains, though some models outperformed others by a obvious margin.
After reviewing official reports and press releases, a ranking of the 20 best-selling vehicles for the year has been compiled. To make the list, a minimum of 162,000 units had to be sold.
While SUVs continue to dominate, a few sedans and hatchbacks still held their ground. The usual contenders remain present, but there have been changes at the top. Unfortunately for Ram enthusiasts, the outcome may not be what they were hoping for.
Here is a breakdown of most popular cars models, starting from the bottom and working up to the top.
1. Ford F-Series: 765,649 Units
No surprises here—Ford’s F-Series remains the top-selling vehicle in America, a position it has held for what feels like an eternity.
Sales saw a modest 2.0 percent increase in 2024, largely due to a strong fourth-quarter performance that helped the lineup recover from earlier declines.
The F-150 received subtle design tweaks as part of a mid-cycle refresh, while the Super Duty introduced an all-new generation in 2023. These changes seem to have resonated with buyers, reinforcing Ford’s dominance in the truck market.

2. Chevrolet Silverado: 542,517 Units
Holding steady in second place, the Chevrolet Silverado wrapped up 2024 with a slight increase in sales—less than 1 percent, but still an upward trend.
The truck’s last major update came in 2022, though its core remains traditional with the familiar 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 engines continuing to do the heavy lifting.
Chevrolet is rumored to be working on hybrid options, but for now, the Silverado sticks to its roots while maintaining its position as a strong contender in the full-size truck segment.
3. Toyota RAV4: 475,193 Units
Once again, the Toyota RAV4 claims the title of America’s best-selling SUV, holding onto its third-place finish from 2023. Sales jumped by 9.3 percent, an impressive feat given that an all-new generation is expected to debut soon.
Despite its 2019 launch, the RAV4 has remained largely unchanged apart from the introduction of additional trim levels. With a lineup that includes 13 variants—including two plug-in hybrid options—it continues to offer buyers a wide range of choices.
4. Honda CR-V: 402,791 Units
Honda had a standout year, particularly with the CR-V, which surged into the top five thanks to an 11.4 percent boost in sales. Crossing the 400,000-unit mark, it remains Honda’s top-selling model.
The latest generation, introduced in 2023, features a design that leans on the conservative side, a strategy that appears to be paying off. Base models start at just over $30,000, while the fully loaded Sport Touring Hybrid approaches $50,000.
5. Ram Pickup: 373,120 Units
Ram’s sales slump in 2024 knocked it out of the top five for the first time in years. The full-size truck’s numbers dropped by 16 percent, likely due to customer hesitation regarding the mid-cycle refresh.
A major talking point among enthusiasts is the discontinuation of the Hemi V-8, replaced by the twin-turbocharged Hurricane I-6.
While the new engine offers better performance on paper, social media backlash suggests that traditional V-8 fans aren’t pleased. With Carlos Tavares no longer at the helm, there’s speculation that a V-8 option might make a return.
6. Tesla Model Y: 372,613 Units (Estimated)
Although Tesla doesn’t disclose individual U.S. sales figures, estimates from Cox Automotive place the Model Y in the sixth position.
The electric crossover was the global best-seller in 2023, and despite a slight dip in Tesla’s entire worldwide sales through 2024, it is expected to maintain its strong presence.
The Model Y has remained largely unchanged since its 2019 debut, but a refreshed version is anticipated later this year.
7. GMC Sierra: 322,946 Units
GMC saw a strong performance in 2024, with its Sierra pickup registering a 9.8 percent increase in sales. The smaller Canyon also had a massive 70 percent jump, but its total sales of 38,215 still pale in comparison to its full-size counterpart.
The Sierra, which shares its platform with the Silverado, is often regarded as the more stylish of the two. However, that added refinement comes at a cost—the base model starts at $42,290 for a single-cab, two-wheel-drive version with minimal features.
8. Toyota Camry: 309,876 Units
Midsize sedans are still in demand, and the Toyota Camry continues to hold its ground. Sales increased by 3.0 percent in 2024, surpassing the 300,000-unit mark even as the model transitioned to a new generation.
The 2025 version became available midway through the year, maintaining an entry price just below $30,000. With seating for five, a reputation for reliability, and impressive fuel efficiency, it’s clear why buyers keep returning to this classic sedan.
9. Nissan Rogue: 245,724 Units
While Nissan faces financial hurdles, the Rogue remains a strong performer in the company’s lineup. Priced competitively at around $30,000, it offers a balance of style and affordability.
Nissan introduced a Rock Creek Edition, adding some visual flair to the lineup, which could help attract new buyers.
However, the model’s sales took a 9.5 percent hit last year, indicating that competition in the compact SUV segment remains fierce.

10. Honda Civic: 242,005 Units
While the Honda Accord struggled in 2024 with a 17 percent decline, the Civic had the opposite experience, surging 20 percent in sales.
Nearly a quarter-million units were sold, making it one of the few compact cars to see such a boost. Its appeal lies in its affordability and engaging driving dynamics—qualities that are becoming harder to find in today’s market.
The hybrid variant stood out in particular, earning the title of the best car of 2024 for its exceptional fuel efficiency and driving enjoyment.
