With the rising trend of electrification and the ever-growing popularity of SUVs and crossovers, one might assume that fun and impractical sports cars are becoming a thing of the past.

However, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the sports car segment.

Manufacturers are not only refining their existing sports car models to align with future performance standards, but many are also introducing brand-new offerings to their lineup.

Some, including Honda and Aston Martin, are even bringing back legendary nameplates from the past.

Throughout the year, we’ve spotted numerous sports coupes tearing up the Nürburgring or making a grand entrance at automotive events, reinforcing that the excitement surrounding these cars is far from over.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the ten most highly anticipated sports cars set to arrive in 2025. Every model on this list is either expected to debut or hit the market sometime that year.

1. 2025 BMW M2 CS

2025 BMW M2 CS Highlights For Gearheads

  • Expected to deliver 518 hp, an increase of 74 hp over its predecessor
  • Likely to come with a standard automatic transmission
  • Features subtle aesthetic tweaks, including a more pronounced ducktail spoiler

Recently, we caught sight of the upcoming BMW M2 CS undergoing testing at the Nürburgring in Germany, signaling that its 2025 launch is just around the corner.

The previous-generation BMW M2 CS was powered by the M4 Competition’s 444-hp inline-six engine and was available with a manual transmission.

BMW appears to be following the same formula this time, equipping the 2025 BMW M2 with the latest M3 and M4 engine—a twin-turbo inline-six producing 473 hp.

This suggests that the M2 CS will adopt the powertrain from the M3 and M4 Competition models, meaning an output of 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque.

However, according to a leak on the Bimmerpost forums, the new M2 CS might actually deliver an even higher output of 518 hp.

If BMW sticks with the M3 and M4 Competition’s engine, the M2 CS will likely come exclusively with an automatic transmission, marking the end of the manual option for this high-performance variant.

2. 2026 Corvette Zora

2026 Corvette Zora Highlights For Gearheads

  • Chevrolet has neither confirmed nor denied the name and details
  • Potentially equipped with a 1,220-hp hybrid powertrain

Just months after the spine-tingling C8 ZR1 made its debut, we spotted a mysterious high-performance Corvette tackling the Nürburgring. Many speculate that this could be the long-rumored Corvette Zora.

Named in honor of Zora Arkus-Duntov, the pioneering GM engineer known as the “Father of the Corvette,” the Zora is expected to be the most extreme version of the model ever produced.

With the C8 ZR1 already pushing an incredible 1,064 horsepower, the Zora could take things even further. If paired with the Corvette E-Ray’s 1.1-kWh battery pack, this hybrid powertrain could potentially generate a staggering 1,220 hp and feature standard all-wheel drive.

Even if the power output remains on par with the ZR1, the Zora is likely to incorporate additional track-focused and weight-reduction features, making it the fastest Corvette to date.

While anticipation is high, it’s unlikely that the Zora will be available for purchase in 2025.

3. 2026 Mercedes-AMG CLE 63

2026 Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 Highlights For Gearheads

  • Expected to feature Mercedes’ 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, also found in the AMG GT (577 hp)
  • Potential for mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants in the future
  • Increased dimensions: 6.5 inches longer than the outgoing C 63 and 1 inch longer than the E 63, with redesigned side vents

The CLE 63 is yet another powerful German machine we spotted flexing its muscles at the Nürburgring this year. Serving as the successor to both the C 63 and E 63 AMG models, the CLE 63 brings them together into a single, slightly larger performance package.

While the previous-generation C 63 AMG, with its four-cylinder powertrain, delivered an impressive 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque, it failed to win over many purists who were disappointed with Mercedes’ decision to downsize.

This lukewarm reception ultimately contributed to sluggish sales. However, recent spy footage of the new CLE 63 strongly suggests a return to a V8 engine, possibly the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter powerplant used in the new SL 63, where it produces 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Additionally, Mercedes is expected to offer a mild hybrid option, boosting performance while enhancing emissions efficiency.

4. 2025 Porsche 911 GT3 992.2

2025 Porsche 911 GT3 992.2 Highlights For Gearheads

  • Retains the previous GT3’s 502-hp naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine
  • Offers a choice between a 7-speed PDK and a 6-speed manual transmission
  • 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds with the PDK, and 3.7 seconds with the manual

Following the discontinuation of the 992 GT3 RS earlier this year, Porsche has now introduced the updated 992.2 generation GT3, which takes over as the latest track-focused 911 model.

The refreshed 2025 911 GT3 will be available in two configurations: a high-downforce track-ready version featuring an aggressive rear wing and a more refined Touring variant designed for road driving.

Customization options remain plentiful for all 2025 GT3 models, including the Weissach Package, which enhances performance with lightweight magnesium wheels and incorporates carbon fiber-reinforced plastic components for the roof, anti-roll bars, and mirrors.

Additionally, for the first time ever in a GT3 model, rear seats are now available as an optional extra through the Touring Package.

For 2025, Porsche has retained the high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter boxer-six, generating 502 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, with buyers able to choose between a 7-speed PDK automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. The starting price is set at $224,495.

5. 2025 BMW M3

2025 BMW M3 Highlights For Gearheads

  • BMW will offer both EV and ICE versions of the M3
  • The internal combustion M3 will retain the S58 inline-six, producing at least 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque
  • The manual transmission is expected to remain an option for the ICE M3

BMW M CEO Frank Van Meel has officially confirmed that the company intends to continue producing the inline-six-powered M3 for as long as regulations allow.

To achieve this, BMW is actively working on refining the S58 engine to ensure compliance with stringent Euro 7 emissions standards.

However, this gas-powered M3 will not be alone, as BMW is also preparing to introduce a fully electric M3 variant that promises to surpass the internal combustion model in terms of power and overall performance.

With that in mind, sometime in 2025, we can anticipate the debut of a new-generation BMW M3 successor.

The current M3 lineup offers a base model with 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque, while the high-performance CS trim pushes those figures to 543 hp and 479 lb-ft all available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The upcoming next-generation M3, likely to be designated as the G84, is expected to bring even more power to the table.

6. Ferrari F80

Ferrari F80 Highlights For Gearheads

  • Ferrari states that the F80 generates 2,315 lbs of downforce at just 155 mph
  • Accelerates from 0-60 mph in an astonishing 2.15 seconds, with a top speed of 217 mph
  • Production will be limited to just 799 units

One of the most highly anticipated sports cars of the year, the long-awaited Ferrari F80 has finally made its debut, serving as a spiritual successor to the legendary F40 and LaFerrari.

As the latest in Ferrari’s esteemed lineup of halo cars, the F80 delivers an equal amount of spectacle both in terms of its performance and the controversy surrounding its powertrain choice.

Unlike its predecessors, which were powered by V12 engines, the F80 features a V6 a decision that has sparked debate among Ferrari purists.

However, the F80 certainly isn’t lacking in power. Aided by three electric motors, its 9,200-rpm 3.0-liter V6 produces an astonishing 1,184 horsepower.

The design of the F80 is another area where Ferrari has pushed boundaries, focusing less on heritage and more on maximizing performance and aerodynamics.

This is evident in the car’s extreme 2,315 lbs of downforce generated at 155 mph, ensuring unparalleled handling and stability.

  • Spotted testing with a powerful front-mid-mounted V8 engine

A low-slung, front-mid-engined supercar that has been aggressively lapping the Nürburgring this year has been confirmed as the upcoming production version of the Toyota GR GT3 concept, rumored to carry the name Lexus LFR.

Although Toyota has yet to officially confirm the name, this model is shaping up to be a spiritual successor to the legendary Lexus LFA.

Its expected debut next year aligns perfectly with Toyota’s plan to phase out the Supra sports car. Branding the new supercar under Lexus makes strategic sense, as Toyota’s luxury sub-brand is also discontinuing the RC and LC500 models.

While technical details remain scarce, track footage strongly suggests the new supercar will be powered by a V8 engine based on its unmistakable exhaust note. As of now, we’ll have to wait for further confirmation.

8. 2026 Honda Prelude

2026 Honda Prelude Highlights For Gearheads

  • Confirmed to feature a 2.0-liter hybrid inline-4 engine producing between 204 and 300 hp
  • Expected to come with a CVT, but rumors suggest a manual transmission option could be available
  • Likely to compete in pricing with the Toyota GR86 and Mazda Miata

Bringing new life to the affordable sports car market, the highly anticipated Honda Prelude coupe is set for an official debut in 2026.

However, its arrival might come even sooner, as we recently spotted a camouflaged production-ready model testing at the Nürburgring.

Honda has confirmed that the Prelude will be equipped with the brand’s hybrid 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain, though specific details regarding power output and transmission options remain unclear.

This engine currently delivers 204 hp in Honda’s hybrid Civic and Accord models, which means that will likely be the minimum output for the Prelude. However, if the powertrain is turbocharged, the output could climb closer to 300 hp.

Regarding transmission choices, Honda’s 2024 Civic hybrid comes with a CVT, making it the most probable option for the Prelude’s base model.

However, there is speculation that Honda might also offer a manual transmission, which would be a major selling point for enthusiasts.

9. 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish

2025 Aston Martin Vanquish Highlights For Gearheads

  • Boasts the most power-dense Aston Martin V12 ever, producing 158 hp per liter
  • 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 delivers 824 hp and 738 lb-ft, paired with an 8-speed transaxle automatic sending power to the rear wheels
  • Accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 214 mph

Unveiled to the public in September 2024, the 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish marks the return of an iconic nameplate in the brand’s lineup.

As the fastest car Aston Martin has ever built, this new Vanquish is powered by a 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 that churns out an impressive 824 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. Designed as a two-seater super grand tourer, it masterfully blends high performance with luxury.

This combination of power and refinement is evident in its 3,911-pound dry weight, enhanced chassis rigidity, and features such as reinforced anti-roll bars and massive carbon ceramic brakes 410mm at the front and 360mm at the rear.

Thanks to its lightweight yet aerodynamic design, the Vanquish is claimed to reach a top speed of 214 mph. Aston Martin plans to produce just 1,000 units annually, with a base price set at $420,000. Deliveries are scheduled to begin at the end of 2024.

10. 2025 Tesla Roadster

2025 Tesla Roadster Highlights For Gearheads

  • Claimed 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, 0-100 mph in 4.4 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 8.8 seconds (claimed)
  • Estimated top speed of 250 mph
  • Claimed 7,375 lb-ft of torque
  • Projected range of 620 miles

The Tesla Roadster has been in development for so long that some may have forgotten it’s still set for release this year.

Originally unveiled in 2017, the Roadster was initially scheduled to launch in 2020, but production setbacks exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic pushed its release back significantly.

Tesla had promised groundbreaking performance, including a 1.9-second 0-60 mph time and an all-electric range of 620 miles.

2025 Tesla Roadster

With its current launch slated for 2025, Tesla is already accepting reservations, requiring a hefty $50,000 deposit for the base model.

Elon Musk has continued to build hype on X, teasing a potential sub-1-second 0-60 mph time and a late 2024 debut. However, how Tesla plans to achieve such a feat remains uncertain.

Musk’s 2018 statement about integrating ten small rocket thrusters into the Roadster may offer some insight, but with the end of the year fast approaching and no official update, skepticism remains high.

As for the sub-1-second 0-60 claim well, we’ll believe it when we see it.
