Ram is initiating a new safety recall that affects more than 72,000 vehicles from the 2025 and 2026 model years.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain trucks were equipped with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster that can intermittently go blank, causing key safety indicators to disappear along with it.
This recall comes just days after another recall involving airbags that could eject metal fragments into the cabin.
The NHTSA’s Safety Recall Report details that the digital cluster in some 2025–2026 Ram trucks may fail at startup or while driving. While a malfunctioning infotainment screen might sound like a minor annoyance, the consequences are more serious.
When the display blanks, critical information disappears as well. Drivers may lose the brake warning light and the gear position indicator, both of which are mandated by federal safety regulations.
The issue stems from software installed on the 12-inch panels supplied by Marelli North America. These components were used from early October 2023 until Ram introduced updated units in 2025.

In total, the recall covers 72,509 trucks, including several of Ram’s key light-duty and heavy-duty models. Specifically, it affects 2025–2026 Ram 1500 pickups (43,427 units), Ram 2500 pickups (19,670 units), Ram 3500 pickups (8,967 units), and smaller numbers of Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles.
Vehicles built during the same period but excluded from the recall either used a different screen supplier, did not have the 12-inch panel, or were assembled outside the affected production window.
In some cases, a malfunction indicator light may appear before the screen goes blank, but most owners will experience a completely dark display without warning.
Owners can already check their VIN to determine if their truck is affected. Dealers received notification on December 4, and owner letters are expected to be mailed on January 8.
When repairs begin, technicians will either reprogram or replace the instrument cluster, depending on the specific vehicle.
As always, all work will be performed free of charge. Ram owners are facing a challenging period, with two recalls in a single week adding to concerns about the brand’s overall quality.
