The upcoming iX4 brings coupe-inspired styling and serious performance to BMW’s electric SUV lineup, offering a sleeker alternative to the iX3.

Electric BMW iX4 caught testing ahead of its official debut later this year. Coupe-like crossover adopts styling cues from the new iX3 SUV. Dual-motor AWD setup expected to deliver 463 hp and brisk acceleration.

If you liked the BMW iX3 but wanted something slightly sportier and less practical, spy photos suggest the new iX4 is just what you’ve been waiting for.

Spotted testing in Europe, the electric crossover follows its more conservative SUV sibling, the iX3. Up front, it features BMW’s vertical twin kidney grille flanked by the brand’s new horizontal light signature, echoing its iX3 counterpart.

Further back, the iX4’s design becomes more dynamic. A steeply sloping roofline flows from a rakish windshield, creating a sportier silhouette. New doors and a slightly smaller greenhouse complement rounded shoulder lines that contrast with the squared-off wheel arches.

The rear end is unique to the crossover coupe, featuring a special spoiler with an integrated third brake light, which doesn’t appear active on the prototype. Unlike the iX3, the iX4 omits a rear wiper, reinforcing its sleeker design.

While much of the rear styling echoes the iX3, with familiar taillights visible beneath the camouflage and a similar rear bumper, final details remain difficult to confirm due to the heavy testing camouflage.

Inside, spy photographers didn’t get a clear look, but the cabin is expected to mirror the iX3. That includes a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic iDrive display, a 17.9-inch infotainment screen, a futuristic steering wheel, a 3D head-up display, and BMW’s intelligent personal assistant.

The iX4 50 xDrive will likely feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm) of torque. These numbers enable the iX4 to sprint from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).

Energy comes from a 108.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, offering a WLTP-estimated range of up to 500 miles (805 km). The battery supports 400 kW DC fast charging, capable of recharging from 10–80% in just 21 minutes.

Additional variants are expected in the future, likely previewed by upcoming iX3 derivatives, further expanding BMW’s electric crossover lineup.
