The Volkswagen Golf GTI EDITION 50, the fastest Golf GTI ever, will cost at least £47,995 in the UK, with prices rising significantly if buyers opt for the Performance Package.
The year 2026 marks 50 years since the original Golf GTI first appeared, and to celebrate this milestone, Volkswagen has created the Edition 50 as the ultimate iteration of the iconic hot hatch.
Given the shift toward electrification across the industry, it could also be one of the last new internal combustion hot hatches we see. While much of this information isn’t new, VW revealed the car last year after setting a niche Nurburgring record, the Edition 50 is now about to go on sale in the UK.
Built on the Golf GTI Clubsport platform, the Edition 50 delivers 321 bhp and 130 lb/ft of torque, allowing it to reach 62 mph in 5.3 seconds. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

Beyond the power upgrade, the Edition 50 also benefits from tweaked adaptive dampers, a 15mm lower ride height, revised steering, and a Nurburgring Driving Mode.
The interior and exterior receive sporty touches as well, including red seat belts, sports seats with classic check patterns, a sports steering wheel, red pedals, and alloy wheels with red highlights.
Production of the Edition 50 is limited to this year, with a starting price of £47,995. Buyers seeking the full performance experience can opt for the Performance Package, which adds further lowered suspension, higher spring rates, Bridgestone semi-slick tires, and an Akrapovic exhaust system.
Equipped with these upgrades, the total price easily exceeds £50,000, making it a fitting celebration of the Golf GTI’s 50-year legacy.
