The upcoming electric Volvo EX60 is scheduled to make its official debut on Wednesday, but images and details of the new model have already surfaced online.

Volvo’s transition to electric vehicles has not been without its challenges. High-profile launches such as the flagship EX90, the electric counterpart to the XC90, have been marked by delays, incomplete features, and ongoing software issues. Those early problems created friction for a model meant to signal Volvo’s electric future.

To its credit, Volvo adjusted course. Rather than forcing the EX90 to immediately replace the long-running XC90, the company chose a more practical path by refreshing the internal-combustion XC90 and keeping it on sale. That decision paid off. In 2025, the first full year of EX90 availability, the gasoline-powered XC90 outsold its electric sibling by more than six to one.

Having absorbed that lesson, Volvo has now taken similar steps with the XC60. The ICE-powered XC60 has been updated to remain competitive as its electric counterpart, the new EX60, prepares to enter the lineup.

That debut is set for Wednesday, but as often happens, the internet got there first. Images of the EX60 have already appeared on Reddit, giving the public an early look.

What’s been revealed so far holds few surprises. The EX60 is clearly a Volvo SUV, closely mirroring the proportions of the XC60 while adopting design cues from the larger EX90.

That includes a mostly closed-off front fascia, Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer headlights, and a familiar Scandinavian-style interior. Underneath, the EX60 rides on a new platform and is expected to offer more than 500 miles of electric driving range.

The challenge ahead is significant. The Volvo XC60 isn’t just another model in the lineup, it’s Volvo’s best-selling vehicle and the brand’s best-selling model of all time. In 2025 alone, it recorded more than 230,000 sales. No matter how capable the EX60 turns out to be, replacing a volume leader with that kind of track record will be an extremely tall order.
