Toyota’s fully electric bZ3X SUV has quickly gained traction in China. After delivering more than 80,000 units during its first year on the market, the model also held the title of best-selling electric vehicle among joint-venture brands in the country for five consecutive months.

Toyota’s joint venture with GAC introduced the Bozhi 3X, more commonly referred to as the bZ3X, in March of last year. At the time of its launch, GAC-Toyota reported that interest in the electric SUV was so intense that online ordering traffic temporarily overwhelmed its servers.

Twelve months later, the model continues to perform strongly despite increasing competition from a large number of low-cost domestic electric vehicles entering the Chinese market. On Tuesday, GAC-Toyota confirmed that deliveries of the bZ3X had exceeded 80,000 units within its first year.

Between September 2025 and January 2026, the SUV consistently ranked as the top-selling new-energy vehicle among joint-venture brands operating in China. This category includes both fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models.

Toyota describes the bZ3X as its first “100,000 yuan-level pure electric SUV.” The vehicle starts at 109,800 yuan, which translates to roughly $15,000. Buyers can choose from seven trim levels, with two versions featuring a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.

The bZ3X is also the first Toyota vehicle to integrate Momenta 5.0, an end-to-end advanced driver assistance system designed to support “self-driving” functions.

In terms of dimensions, the electric SUV measures 4,645 mm in length, 1,885 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height. These proportions place it in the same general size category as vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen ID.4, and BYD Yuan Plus, sold internationally as the Atto 3.

Inside the cabin, the bZ3X introduces a more modern design compared with many of Toyota’s current production models. The interior is centered around a 14.6-inch floating infotainment display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. Complementing it is an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver.

Other interior features include a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, 32-color ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof, giving the cabin a noticeably more technology-focused atmosphere.

The electric SUV is offered with two battery configurations. The entry-level version uses a 50.04 kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC-rated range of approximately 430 kilometers (267 miles).

A larger 67.92 kWh battery is also available, extending the estimated driving range to 610 kilometers (379 miles) under the CLTC testing cycle.

Although Toyota could eventually introduce the bZ3X in international markets such as Japan, Australia, or the United Kingdom, the model is unlikely to be sold in the United States because it is manufactured in China.

However, Toyota is still expanding its electric lineup in the American market. The company plans to introduce three new electric SUVs this year, targeting multiple segments.

While these upcoming models will not match the bZ3X’s extremely low starting price, they are expected to remain relatively competitive within the U.S. EV market. The 2026 Toyota bZ is projected to start at $34,900, while the new C-HR EV is expected to begin around $37,000, placing both among the more affordable electric SUVs available in the United States.
