BMW has offered an early glimpse of the Neue Klasse-inspired design that will shape the 2027 BMW 7 Series, and the preview suggests the flagship sedan will retain its illuminated oversized grille while adopting an even more assertive front-end design.

BMW’s Neue Klasse design direction is now firmly established, with the new iX3 marking the beginning of a fresh chapter for the German automaker.

The next-generation 3 Series will soon follow with a comprehensive redesign, while other models across the lineup will adopt similar styling cues through mid-cycle updates. As a result, vehicles such as the 7 Series, 5 Series, and X3 are expected to receive visual elements derived from this new design philosophy.

Among the models scheduled for Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) updates, the 7 Series will be the first to receive the Neue Klasse treatment. Spy photos of the refreshed flagship sedan have circulated for several months, and the official reveal now appears to be approaching. BMW recently released a teaser image through its social media channels, offering a partial look at the upcoming design. Judging by early reactions, the styling is already sparking debate.

Anyone anticipating a more restrained or conservative look for the 2027 BMW 7 Series may be surprised by what the teaser suggests. Instead of softening its controversial styling direction, BMW appears to have embraced an even bolder design approach. Whether admired or criticized, the new look is almost guaranteed to provoke discussion, reminiscent of the reaction that greeted the E65-generation 7 Series when it debuted.

The car appears to retain the quad-headlight layout, but the daytime running lights now look noticeably slimmer than before. The hood also seems flatter, giving the front end a broader and more imposing presence.

Meanwhile, the signature grille appears to feature sharper, more defined edges. It is also possible that the primary headlight units have been redesigned, and the surrounding body panels may feature revised sheet metal. Altogether, the update suggests far more than a minor facelift.

Since BMW has already begun teasing the refreshed model, the complete reveal is likely not far away. However, the company has yet to confirm a specific debut date.

What is known is that BMW has a busy launch schedule: the electric version of the 3 Series is expected to be revealed on March 18, while a new M model is scheduled to debut on March 16. Considering the pace at which BMW has been introducing new and updated vehicles recently, it would not be surprising if the redesigned 7 Series appears before the end of the month.

For now, BMW has revealed just enough to spark curiosity while keeping many details concealed. What is already clear, however, is that the brand has no intention of retreating from bold and divisive design choices. Based on what has been shown so far, the recent redesign of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class looks comparatively conservative.
