MINI USA entered the Rebelle Rally for the first time in October 2026, putting the new 2027 MINI Countryman Untamed Edition through an eight-day off-road navigation competition across the American Southwest.

The event began in Las Vegas on October 8 and covered approximately 1,500 miles of challenging terrain across Nevada, California, and Utah. Rather than competing to set the fastest time, MINI’s team had to navigate using maps, a compass, and roadbooks while managing difficult trails and changing conditions.

The entry gives MINI an opportunity to demonstrate what its latest adventure-focused Countryman can do beyond paved roads. It also offers a real-world test of the vehicle’s all-wheel-drive system, raised suspension, and all-terrain tires.

However, the rally is not a laboratory test, and one team’s performance cannot establish long-term reliability for every owner. Its value lies in showing how the vehicle and its equipment respond to demanding conditions when combined with driver skill, navigation, and preparation.

Why MINI Chose the Rebelle Rally

The Rebelle Rally differs from conventional motorsport events because speed is not the primary measure of success. Teams use traditional navigation tools to find checkpoints and earn points through accuracy, route planning, and decision-making.

GPS navigation is prohibited for competition navigation, placing a premium on teamwork and the ability to interpret terrain and route instructions. The eight-day event is considered the longest competitive off-road rally in the United States.

For MINI, entering the rally creates a setting in which to demonstrate the Countryman’s adventure-oriented equipment. The brand is best known for compact cars with agile road manners, but the Countryman has grown into a larger crossover with available all-wheel drive.

The Untamed Edition builds on that format with additional ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and protective exterior details intended to make it more suitable for dirt roads and uneven surfaces.

MINI’s first team, known as the #NotSoMINIRebelles, paired driver Felicia Killman with navigator Erika Ferrer. Killman was making her rally debut, while Ferrer brought extensive navigation experience and three co-driver championship titles from Mexico. That combination gave the team a mix of fresh perspective and established rally expertise.

The competition also gives MINI a way to connect a new special edition with the brand’s motorsport history. Instead of presenting the Untamed Edition solely through styling images and feature lists, the company is placing it in an event where traction, ground clearance, navigation, and durability all matter.

The setting offers a visible demonstration of the vehicle’s intended use, although the results should be interpreted in the context of the rally’s particular rules and conditions.

What Makes the 2027 Countryman Untamed Edition Different?

In the U.S. market, the MINI Countryman Untamed Edition comes in two versions, the gasoline-powered S ALL4 and the fully electric SE ALL4. Both feature MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel-drive system, but their different powertrains cater to drivers with distinct driving preferences and energy needs.

The S ALL4 runs on a conventional gasoline engine, whereas the SE ALL4 relies on electric propulsion. The two versions differ in more than their power sources, with variations in drivetrain design, vehicle weight, and energy consumption that affect how each model performs.

The most significant chassis change is a 15-millimeter suspension lift, which increases ground clearance compared with the regular Countryman configuration.

That extra height can help the vehicle clear some rocks, ruts, and uneven sections without scraping its underside. MINI also specifies an Untamed-specific chassis calibration, intended to complement the raised ride height and the vehicle’s adventure-oriented purpose.

The special edition rides on 19-inch Untamed Edition wheels fitted with Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires. The tire choice is important because off-road traction depends heavily on the contact patch, tread design, and ability to maintain grip on loose surfaces.

All-terrain tires are designed to offer a compromise between paved-road manners and traction on dirt or gravel. They are not a substitute for specialized mud-terrain tires on every surface, and tire pressure, driving technique, and available traction still matter.

MINI also equips the Untamed Edition with Hill Descent Control and Drive-off Support. Hill Descent Control helps regulate the vehicle’s speed on steep or slippery downhill sections, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering.

Drive-off support helps the vehicle pull away on challenging surfaces such as sand, snow, or ice. These systems can assist with control, but they cannot overcome every slope, loose surface, or obstacle. Drivers still need to assess the route and avoid terrain that exceeds the vehicle’s capabilities.

A factory-installed trailer hitch is also included, adding practical flexibility for owners who need to tow compatible equipment. MINI’s U.S. materials list a range of functional and appearance details, including dark exterior accents, protective decals around the wheel arches and side sills, and edition-specific interior trim.

The cabin receives distinctive upholstery and details inspired by outdoor use, while the exterior colors include Hideaway Grey and Nomad Blue.

These upgrades are designed to make the Countryman more capable on rough roads, but they do not turn it into a dedicated rock-crawling vehicle. The suspension lift is modest, and the Untamed Edition does not replace the specialized hardware found on vehicles built for extreme off-roading.

Its intended territory is better understood as gravel tracks, remote access roads, camping routes, and moderate trails where additional clearance and all-wheel-drive traction can be useful.

Pricing, Availability, and What the Rally Can Prove

The 2027 MINI Countryman S ALL4 Untamed Edition starts at $43,900 in the United States, excluding destination and handling. MINI has not yet announced U.S. pricing for the all-electric Countryman SE ALL4 Untamed Edition.

Production is scheduled to begin in November 2026 at BMW Group Plant Leipzig, with global market launch and U.S. customer deliveries expected in early 2027.

The gasoline model’s price places it in a segment where buyers can also consider other compact luxury crossovers. The Untamed Edition’s added capability and distinctive styling may appeal to drivers who regularly travel on unpaved roads, but the value depends on how often those features will be used.

Someone who mainly commutes on paved streets may gain more from a conventional Countryman configuration, while outdoor enthusiasts could appreciate the raised suspension, all-terrain tires, and protective details.

The electric SE ALL4 version presents a different set of considerations. Electric torque can be useful when moving over loose terrain at low speeds, but off-road driving can consume energy quickly, especially when the route involves steep gradients, soft surfaces, or frequent acceleration.

Drivers planning remote trips need to account for charging availability, remaining range, and the possibility that a detour will add distance. MINI has not announced a U.S. price for this version, so its value cannot yet be compared directly with the gasoline edition.

The rally itself offers useful evidence of how the Countryman Untamed Edition performs in demanding conditions, but the result needs context. During the event, MINI’s team encountered steep hills, water crossings, storms, and challenging desert terrain.

In the standings published after Day 4, the team ranked third in the four-team X-Cross class with 463 points. The competition was still underway at that point, so the position was not a final result.

That distinction matters because the Rebelle Rally tests navigation accuracy and teamwork as well as vehicle capability. A strong result depends on the crew’s decisions, route selection, and checkpoint performance, not simply on engine output or ground clearance.

Likewise, completing a difficult stage demonstrates that a vehicle managed those particular conditions, but it does not prove that every production example will have the same performance in all environments.

For buyers, the most useful takeaway is that MINI has equipped the Untamed Edition for more than visual adventure styling. The additional clearance, all-terrain tires, all-wheel drive, and hill-control features have practical purposes on moderate off-road routes.

The rally gives MINI a demanding public setting to demonstrate those features, while also showing that driver judgment and navigation remain central to reaching a destination safely.

The 2027 Countryman Untamed Edition represents a more rugged direction for MINI’s crossover lineup. Its participation in the Rebelle Rally connects that positioning to a real off-road challenge rather than relying entirely on marketing claims.

The vehicle’s ultimate appeal will depend on its price, real-world capability, and how well its equipment fits an owner’s routine. For drivers who want a compact luxury crossover that can handle camping trips and rough access roads, the Untamed Edition offers a factory-built alternative to adding off-road accessories after purchase.
