Audi has revealed two new plug-in hybrid powertrains for the Q7 and Q8 SUVs in Europe. These powertrains are not coming to the U.S. market yet. The Q8 for our market was refreshed in 2024, and the Q7 was refreshed in 2025, but they didn’t change their powertrains.
Back in 2019, Audi announced the 2020 Q7 PHEV, but it was pulled off the market due to global production issues. Now, Audi has introduced two new PHEVs for the Q7 and Q8 in Europe, making significant improvements from the previous attempts.
There are two versions for each SUV: the 55 TFSI E Quattro and 60 TFSI E Quattro. Both come with Audi’s well-known twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, producing 335 horsepower and 379 pound-feet of torque. They also have a 25.9-kilowatt-hour battery under the cargo floor, which is larger than before and doesn’t take up cargo space. The electric driving range has increased to 53 miles on combined driving, or even up to 56 miles in the city.
In the 55 version, there’s a new electric motor with 174 hp and 339 lb-ft, resulting in a combined output of 389 hp and 443 lb-ft. The 60 version has a more powerful electric motor, boosting the combined output to 483 hp and 516 lb-ft. Both versions can reach a top speed of 150 mph in Hybrid mode or 84 mph in EV mode.
Owners can choose between EV or Hybrid mode when starting the vehicle, and the chosen mode will stay until changed. In Hybrid mode, there’s an auto setting for battery usage, a hold setting to maintain the current battery level, and a charge mode to restore the battery to 75% full.
Both versions come well-equipped with features like LED headlights, various wheel designs, cabin decorations, and a charging cable. The 60 version also includes standard air suspension.
These new PHEV models are now available for order in Europe, but they’re not expected to come to the U.S. market anytime soon, just like the previous PHEV models. The highest plug-in Audi SUV available here is the Q5.
