Avelo Airlines has announced plans to resume its flights between Wisconsin and Orlando for the upcoming summer season after a brief pause starting in late April. Starting from early June, the airline will operate two weekly services on a revised schedule.
During the hiatus, which will last for over five weeks from April 28th until June 5th, Avelo Airlines will temporarily suspend its operations between Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). However, the airline intends to reintroduce the route with a new schedule that will remain in effect until the end of the year.
Upon the resumption of flights in early June, Avelo will implement a revised schedule, with services now scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays, a day earlier than the previous Thursday and Sunday frequencies. Additionally, departure times will be adjusted, with outbound flights from Wisconsin departing at 06:30, a change from the previous afternoon departures.
Trevor Yealy, Avelo Airlines’ Head of Commercial, expressed excitement about the summer flights between Central Wisconsin and Orlando, highlighting the convenience it offers for vacations or visits with friends and relatives.
Orlando is Avelo’s sole connection with Central Wisconsin Airport, a route that was inaugurated in October 2023. Despite being a smaller airport, CWA benefits from regular commercial services provided by American Airlines and Delta Air Lines, offering year-round direct flights to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Minneapolis-St Paul (MSP), respectively.
Brian Grefe, CWA Airport Director, explained that the decision to temporarily suspend services was strategic, aiming to avoid operating flights during a period of low demand, particularly before the school summer break, when travel to Orlando typically increases due to its status as “The Theme Park Capital of the World.”
Acknowledging Avelo’s popularity at CWA, Grefe expressed hope for the airline to introduce additional connections in the future, with Las Vegas highlighted as a potential destination, given Avelo’s establishment of a new base in Vegas the previous September.
Tickets for the resumed flights are now available, with introductory one-way fares starting at $84. The flights will be operated by Avelo’s all-economy Boeing 737NG fleet.
