Delta Air Lines seeks to streamline passenger transfers at Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) by eliminating baggage recheck requirements for flights to the United States, aiming to improve the travel experience for domestic connections.
Jeff Moomaw, Delta Air Lines’ Vice President of Asia, revealed plans to remove the baggage recheck mandate for HND-US flights and transfers via Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) by the end of 2024. Moomaw acknowledged the inconvenience of rechecking baggage for onward US connections, expressing hope for its elimination.
Currently, passengers transiting through non-preclearance airports must recheck baggage upon US entry. Delta collaborates with Japanese and US authorities to implement the change, aiming to enhance passenger convenience and efficiency.
Kevin K. McAleenan, Deputy Commissioner at US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), emphasized the importance of facilitating international travel while ensuring security and a seamless passenger experience.
Delta Air Lines operates 42 weekly flights from HND to six US destinations and ten weekly flights from ICN to four US airports. The carrier’s efforts align with its commitment to improving the passenger journey and facilitating smoother transfers for travelers.
