Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has revealed plans to enhance its wayfinding system through terminal renaming and gate renumbering initiatives. As one of the largest airports in the United States, LAX aims to streamline navigation and improve passenger experience with these updates.

Under the wayfinding enhancement program, LAX will consolidate terminals and renumber gates to create a more intuitive layout for travelers. Terminal 1 and Concourse 0 will merge to form a consolidated Terminal 1, while Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 will combine to create Terminal 2. Additionally, Terminal B will be renamed Tom Bradley Terminal 3.

Furthermore, LAX will implement a new alphanumeric gate numbering system consistently airport-wide, starting afresh at each boarding area. This system aims to simplify gate identification and streamline the boarding process for passengers.

Despite these changes, the renaming of what was planned as Terminal 9 to Terminal 8 may cause temporary confusion among travelers familiar with LAX’s layout. Additionally, the upcoming people mover system, scheduled for completion in spring 2025, will introduce further changes to station names, potentially complicating navigation for passengers.

While delays have affected the people mover project, LAX remains committed to enhancing infrastructure and improving the whole passenger experience at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
