Joby, a California-based company, is on the verge of gaining approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its electric air taxi. Simultaneously, it’s expanding its global footprint, with plans to introduce its eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as early as next year.
Visitors to this year’s DRIFTx event in Abu Dhabi were treated to a look at Joby’s revolutionary aircraft. This marked the first time the eVTOL was showcased in Abu Dhabi, fitting seamlessly with the event’s focus on smart, autonomous, and sustainable transportation technologies.
The UAE is positioning itself as a leader in cutting-edge transportation, making it an ideal market for Joby’s innovative air taxi. Through a memorandum signed at the prestigious event, Joby laid the groundwork for air taxi operations in Abu Dhabi, partnering with key organizations such as the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (DED), and Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT).
Beyond Abu Dhabi, Joby’s agreement holds the promise of inter-emirate air taxi services, connecting top tourist destinations like Abu Dhabi and Dubai. With the potential to significantly reduce travel times, the introduction of Joby’s air taxi represents a major leap forward in urban mobility.
Meanwhile, Joby is gearing up to launch air taxi services in Dubai as early as next year, following an exclusive agreement with the local Road and Transport Authority (RTA). This strategic partnership ensures Joby’s presence in Dubai for the next six years, solidifying its position as a key player in the region’s transportation world.
With its ability to transport passengers emission-free and at high speeds, Joby’s eVTOL promises to revolutionize urban transportation in the UAE and beyond, offering a look into the future of sustainable mobility.
