Qatar Airways loves Boeing’s Dreamliner family. They already had a bunch of the smaller 787-8 model in their fleet. Back in 2016, they ordered a whole bunch of the bigger 787-9 Dreamliners (30 to be exact) for a cool $11.7 billion.

There were some delays in getting these new planes. Qatar Airways wanted to install their fancy new QSuite seats, which caused a wait. Finally, in December of 2019, it looked like the Dreamliners were ready to fly to Qatar. But surprise! They actually flew to a storage facility in California instead. It seems they just needed to be registered in Qatar before getting their seats and such installed.

Even more delays came in 2020 with the pandemic. Everything in air travel slowed way down. Finally, in 2021, Qatar Airways felt things were getting back to normal and launched their shiny new 787-9 Dreamliners with a flight from Doha to Milan. They’ve also talked about using these planes on routes to other cities like Athens, Barcelona, and Kuala Lumpur.
