Drones have become ubiquitous in our lives, serving as versatile tools for both work and leisure. Their impact is poised to expand significantly, particularly within critical industries such as construction and agriculture. While these sectors currently utilize drones primarily for surveillance and data collection, a transformative shift is imminent.

Rotor Technologies has introduced two colossal unmanned aerial vehicles, Airtruck and Sprayhawk, poised to redefine drone capabilities. These behemoths, repurposed from the renowned Robinson R44 helicopter, are set to transition drones from passive observers to active participants in building and farming operations.

Equipped with advanced cameras, sensors, lidar, and remote control systems, these aerial giants represent a pivotal advancement, promising to revolutionize how we approach construction and agriculture. Rotor and Robinson have revealed a pair of groundbreaking drones, the Airtruck and the Sprayhawk, following their successful collaboration showcased at HeliExpo in Anaheim earlier this year.

These aerial giants are poised to redefine their respective industries. The Airtruck, a veritable workhorse of the skies, boasts an impressive payload capacity of over 1,000 pounds, outmatching the weight of a standard Robinson R44 helicopter.

Its robust frame, powered by a Lycoming engine, enables it to achieve a top speed of 125 mph. To ensure precision and safety, the Airtruck is equipped with a sophisticated suite of technologies, including cameras, sensors, lidar, and advanced communication systems.

Complementing the Airtruck is the Sprayhawk, a specialized agricultural drone designed to revolutionize crop management. This innovative machine shares the same powerful engine and core technology as its counterpart but is specifically tailored for aerial application.

Equipped with ample 110-gallon tanks and 33-foot spray booms, the Sprayhawk can efficiently cover vast expanses of land, treating up to 240 acres in a single hour while maintaining a steady speed of 80 mph.

With a flight endurance of 50 minutes, this drone offers unparalleled efficiency and productivity for farmers and agricultural businesses. Rotor’s Sprayhawk is a revolutionary agricultural drone designed for efficient and precise crop spraying. Controlled remotely by a small crew of two, the drone utilizes advanced camera, sensor, and lidar technology to autonomously go around complex terrain and avoid obstacles.

Remarkably, the Sprayhawk can match the spraying capacity and speed of traditional manned aircraft while offering substantial operational cost savings. Production is already in full swing, with the first Sprayhawk slated for delivery to a U.S. customer before the year’s end.

Although production is limited to 15 units for 2025, the Sprayhawk represents a promising investment for farmers seeking to modernize their operations. Priced at $990,000, it offers a potentially cost-effective alternative to manned aircraft. However, to secure this price point, orders must be placed before December 15th, as subsequent pricing adjustments are anticipated.
