The revealing of a new family of business jets might not seem particularly exciting to most of us. After all, few of us will ever have the opportunity to fly in one. However, these aircraft are incredible feats of engineering, and many people are fascinated by them. The Cessna Citation name is legendary in the business jet world.
Since its first flight in 1969, the Citation family has sold over 8,000 units, making it one of the most successful in the industry. The third generation of Citation light jets is about to be launched, and it promises to be even more impressive than its predecessors.
The Citation M2, CJ3, and CJ4 are all part of this new generation. They feature advanced avionics, including the Garmin G3000 Prime suite. This suite makes flying the planes easier and more intuitive for pilots. Additionally, the planes have an Emergency Autoland feature that can automatically land the plane if the pilot is unresponsive.
The Citation M2 is the smallest of the three planes, but it still offers a comfortable and spacious cabin. The CJ3 is slightly larger and has a more luxurious interior. The CJ4 is the largest of the three and offers the most amenities.
Textron has not released pricing information for the new Citation models yet. However, they are expected to be more expensive than previous generations. The planes are scheduled to start deliveries in 2025. Textron Aviation has introduced a trio of updated Citation jets, each designed to enhance passenger comfort, pilot efficiency, and technological advancements.
The Citation M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3, and CJ4 Gen3 feature a range of improvements, including enhanced safety systems, upgraded interiors, and increased range. A key safety feature across all three models is the advanced autopilot system, which can automatically stabilize the aircraft and communicate with air traffic control in the event of pilot incapacitation.
Additionally, all models are equipped with Garmin Autothrottles and Runway Occupancy Awareness Advanced 3D SafeTaxi for improved runway safety. Inside the cabin, passengers will enjoy a more luxurious experience with features such as ambient lighting, illuminated cupholders, and an optional folding side facing seat.
USB-A and USB-C ports are now available at each seat, and the interior materials have been updated for a more modern feel. For pilots, the cockpits have been redesigned with larger secondary display units and a more intuitive layout.
The Citation CJ4 Gen3 also features lithium-ion batteries for improved cold weather performance and new winglets with enhanced lighting for increased visibility. The Citation M2 Gen3, CJ3 Gen3, and CJ4 Gen3 are scheduled to enter service in 2027, 2027, and 2026, respectively.
