Bentley is saying goodbye to its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, at least for the Continental and Flying Spur models. However, the Bentayga will still use this engine for a while.
In Europe, the UK, and the Middle East, Bentley is finishing production of its final cars with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The last deliveries will be in June. North America will follow later.
But don’t worry, Bentley isn’t abandoning the V8 altogether. They announced a new V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, which will be their main offering, replacing the W12. It’s expected to have 740 horsepower and an electric range of 50 miles. More details will be revealed later.
Bentley plans to use hybrid powertrains to replace the gas-only V8 option. By 2024, all their models will have hybrid variants. Currently, only the Continental doesn’t have a hybrid option, but that might change soon.
To mark the end of the current V8 era, Bentley created “Edition 8” versions of the Flying Spur, Continental GT, and Continental GTC. These models have extra features from Mulliner as standard. You can spot them by the Edition 8 badges and special details like embroidered seat backs and unique treadplates. These models also have a special Palm Fluting pattern on the seats, a first for Bentley’s core models.
The Edition 8 cars will start being delivered very soon. If you’re a big fan of Bentley’s current V8 and have the money, now’s your chance to get one.
