Scandinavian Motorcycle Design: Black Lanes' CB650 Custom Build

Scandinavian design is synonymous with elegance and minimalism, transcending various domains, including furniture, architecture, and even custom motorcycles. In Sweden, the duo of Andreas Jonsson and Hakan Boqvist, known as Black Lanes, exemplify this ethos through their remarkable motorcycle builds.

Their latest creation, based on a 1980 Honda CB650, showcases their mastery of blending simplicity with functionality. Despite starting with a pile of rusty parts, the duo transformed the neglected motorcycle into a stunning custom masterpiece.

The CB650 underwent extensive refurbishment, including a complete engine overhaul and a sleek gloss-black powder coating. Custom modifications, such as aftermarket pod filters and reverse megaphone mufflers, enhanced performance while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic.

The addition of a Yamaha XS400 fuel tank retrofitted to fit seamlessly onto the CB650 frame altered the bike’s silhouette dramatically. A scrambler-style bench seat, walnut wood accents, and LED lighting further elevate the motorcycle’s design, culminating in a harmonious blend of form and function.

Every detail, from the cross-braced handlebar to the vintage-inspired headlamp, reflects Scandinavian design principles. The result is a custom motorcycle that not only captivates with its aesthetics but also delivers an exhilarating riding experience, embodying the essence of Scandinavian design in the realm of motorcycling.
