A noteworthy transaction recently unfolded in the automotive realm, centering around a British-made motorcycle with a unique tie to Elvis Presley.
The motorcycle in question, a Triumph T120, gained distinction through its styling reminiscent of the Bonneville Desert Sled featured in Elvis’ 1968 movie “Stay Away, Joe.” This connection to the King of Rock and Roll, alongside its vibrant colors inspired by Elvis’ Comeback Special concert, rendered the motorcycle a coveted piece of memorabilia.
While Elvis himself did not own this particular Triumph T120, he was enamored with the model, ordering one for each member of his entourage, known as the Memphis Mafia.
Displayed at prestigious events such as the Barber Vintage Festival and the Presley Motors Automobile Museum at Graceland, the motorcycle eventually found its way to auction at the Amelia Island Auction in February 2024. Despite its storied history, the motorcycle fetched a modest sum of $20,000, disappointing some enthusiasts given its significance.
Accompanying the motorcycle on the auction block was a Gibson Les Paul guitar, also adorned with distinctive colors reminiscent of Elvis’ Comeback Special. Despite the allure of this musical counterpart, the combined sale failed to meet lofty expectations, although proceeds benefitted the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.
While the sale may have fallen short of some expectations, it underscores the enduring legacy of Elvis Presley and the enduring allure of memorabilia associated with the King.
