Australians have a keen affinity for custom motorcycles, evident from the plethora of bike-modding firms across the country. Among them is Liam Butler, operating his workshop, Butler’s Customs & Classics, in Newcastle, New South Wales.
Combining automotive electrician expertise with a team of specialists, Liam transforms both cars and motorcycles. One recent highlight from Butler’s shop is a stunning hardtail chopper based on a Yamaha XS650, commissioned by a client named Rodney with no budget constraints.
Despite the XS650’s initial shabby appearance, Liam saw potential, especially with its refurbished parallel-twin engine. However, the corroded hardtail frame required a complete overhaul.
Liam meticulously crafted the frame’s tubing, integrating Harley-Davidson wheels clad in vintage-style Shinko tires. Springer forks were revamped with handmade billet aluminum and brass components, complementing a tall chopper handlebar with Motogadget instrumentation.
Custom twin headlights and a Lowbrow Customs caliper with an aftermarket brake rotor enhance its visual appeal and functionality. The centerpiece is a bespoke chopper-style fuel tank meticulously shaped from scratch.
A chrome-plated metal saddle, handmade electronics box, and sizable rear fender contribute to the bike’s unique character. Notably, Liam’s craftsmanship extends to a striking sissy bar, beautifully integrated with LED turn signals and exhaust plumbing.
Finished in a glossy burgundy coat with chrome and brass accents, the motorcycle exemplifies Liam’s attention to detail. Thanks to Liam’s electrical proficiency, the rewiring process was seamless, culminating in the bike winning a first-place trophy at a local custom bike show less than 24 hours after completion.
Rodney’s ecstatic reaction upon receiving his award-winning ride underscores the fulfillment of entrusting a skilled custom motorcycle shop with creative freedom and no budget constraints. In short, it’s a testament to pure bliss in custom motorcycle craftsmanship.
