The cafe racer motorcycle genre is defined by its lightweight construction, sporty ergonomics, and distinctive style. Kevin McAllister, a talented custom bike artisan, took on the challenge of building a cafe racer using a 1983 Yamaha Virago as his canvas. The result is a stunning transformation that showcases McAllister’s creativity and craftsmanship.
Starting with the Virago’s engine and main frame, McAllister meticulously reworked the bike, sourcing new components and fabricating custom parts. The front end was upgraded with forks from a Honda VTR1000F, while the rear received a handmade subframe and aluminum seat pan.
Modern upgrades, including digital instrumentation, LED lighting, and a lithium-ion battery, enhance the bike’s performance and aesthetics. The air-cooled V-twin engine was also upgraded for improved power and responsiveness.
Finished in a sleek black powder coat, McAllister’s cafe racer features a minimalist design with clean lines and premium finishes. From its retro-inspired styling to its custom touches, the Virago cafe racer is a true testament to McAllister’s passion for motorcycles.
