The Neptun concept motorcycle takes inspiration from the burgeoning world of supermotos. These street-focused machines combine the agility of dirt bikes with larger wheels and grippy tires for superior tarmac performance.
To envision the Neptun, take a look at established supermotos like the KTM 690 SMC R, Suzuki DR-Z400SM, Ducati Hypermotard 950s, and Yamaha WR 125. These will give you a good idea of the supermoto aesthetic that Schroder has incorporated into his design.
Moving on to the specifics of the Neptun, the concept boasts a compact build with a seat height of 123 cm (48 inches) and a wheelbase of 148.6 cm (58.5 inches). Drawing inspiration from the Stark Varg, supposedly the world’s most advanced electric motorcycle, the Neptun inherits a lightweight design.
The Stark Varg itself weighs only 118 kg (260 lbs), making it a perfect base for a nimble electric supermoto. The Stark Varg provided the foundation for the Neptun concept, with some key elements remaining untouched. These include the front fork, mainframe, skid plate, and even some recognizable electronic components. Schroder also retained the Varg’s signature carbon fiber subframe.
However, the Neptun takes a radical departure by incorporating supermoto characteristics. This transformation is most evident in the wheels, which swap knobby off-road tires for street-legal Goodyears wrapped around spoked rims. Brembo brakes add stopping power, a crucial element for going around paved roads.
To comply with regulations, the Neptun incorporates essential road-going equipment like LED headlights, taillights, and turn signals, along with a license plate mount. The design also includes a digital display in the cockpit for essential rider information. Cosmetically, the Neptun’s fairings are subtly widened to create a more road-oriented profile.
The front fender retains its motocross heritage, while the rear mudguard is appropriately extended to accommodate the wider street tire. Eager to ditch the gas station for good? Stark Future’s Varg electric dirt bike is poised for release in early August 2024, with a price tag of $12,900. But what if you crave a street-legal version that turns heads? Here’s where things get interesting.
The Varg’s design shares some DNA with the conceptual Neptun, meaning a DIY transformation isn’t entirely out of possibility. The key lies in precise measurements and crafting aerodynamic fairings that match the Neptun’s sleek look. Keep in mind the Varg’s stock wheel options (18 or 19 inches) straying from these might require additional modifications. With dedication and some technical expertise, however, this electric dream machine could become a reality.
