A revolution is underway in motorcycle engineering as manufacturers leverage technological advancements to redefine the gear-shifting experience. By eliminating the manual clutch, these companies aim to create smoother, more intuitive riding. BMW’s Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) is a pioneering example, automating clutch operation and gear changes for seamless transitions.

Yamaha’s Automated Manual Transmission follows suit, eradicating both the clutch and foot pedal, promising a truly hands-off shifting experience. Honda’s E-Clutch, while retaining the shift pedal, automates clutch engagement, significantly enhancing rider comfort, particularly during starts, stops, and gear changes.

These innovations hold the potential to democratize motorcycling by reducing the learning curve and enhancing enjoyment, making riding more accessible to a wider audience. Honda has introduced its innovative E-Clutch system to the American market, equipping the 2024 CB650R and CBR650R models with this advanced technology.

This system, composed of dual electric motors, gears, a control unit, and a clutch lever shaft, offers riders a smoother and more effortless riding experience by automatically engaging and disengaging the clutch. Leveraging data from engine speed, throttle position, and gear selection sensors, the E-Clutch intelligently adapts to riding conditions.

However, Honda emphasizes rider control by retaining the option for manual clutch operation. These new models also showcase a refreshed aesthetic, featuring LED lighting and a modern TFT display. The CB650R, styled as a sports café, is available in Pearl Smoky Gray for $9,399, while the sportier CBR650R comes in Grand Prix Red at $9,899.

Importantly, both motorcycles maintain their previous powertrains, focusing the updates on enhancing rider experience and visual appeal. Honda has expanded its 2025 lineup beyond the recently revealed CB650R and CBR650R. Joining the party are several other popular models, from the high-performance CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP to the iconic Monkey.

The Fireblade, a track-ready powerhouse, gets suspension upgrades, advanced rider aids, and a sharper look for its $28,999 price tag. The CBR1000RR, offered in both ABS and non-ABS versions, is priced from $16,999. The CBR600RR also sees a return, available in ABS and non-ABS trims, starting at $12,199.

Honda hasn’t forgotten the entry-level market, with the CB300R featuring premium components like aluminum wheels and ABS for $5,149. Finally, the beloved Monkey gets a refresh, arriving in a single red color with a starting price of $4,349.
