Giacomo Galbiati, a titan in the field of custom motorcycle construction, has crafted yet another masterpiece. His latest creation draws inspiration from the legendary Harley-Davidson VR1000, a homologation special that continues to fascinate enthusiasts worldwide. However, Galbiati’s vision extended beyond mere replication.
He dared to deviate from the expected, selecting a 1999 Buell S1 Lightning as the foundation for his artistic endeavor. This audacious choice set the stage for a radical transformation that would not only pay homage to the VR1000 but also redefine the boundaries of custom motorcycle design.
With the Buell disassembled, Galbiati’s raw canvas was exposed. His meticulous craftsmanship and innovative design philosophy were poised to create a motorcycle that would transcend mere aesthetics.
This was not simply a restoration or modification; it was a reinterpretation of motorcycling heritage, imbued with a contemporary spirit. The stage was set for a symphony of metal, leather, and ingenuity, a symphony that would resonate with motorcycle aficionados for generations to come.
The custom motorcycle’s rear end is a blend of form and function. A circular aftermarket taillight, seamlessly integrated into the bike’s bodywork, provides illumination, while LED turn signals mounted on an aluminum license plate holder below add a modern touch. The cockpit has been transformed with clip-on handlebars from Tommaselli and bar-end mirrors, creating a clean, uncluttered riding position.
The original instrument cluster remains but has been strategically relocated to suit the rider’s preference. Under the skin, the V-twin engine boasts a series of performance enhancements. Vintage-inspired air cleaners feed the engine with life-giving oxygen, while custom, high-mounted exhaust pipes equipped with heat-wrapped headers, a perforated heat shield, and dual SuperTrapp silencers expel spent gasses with authority.
A Power Commander module from Dynojet optimizes fuel delivery to harness the full potential of the upgraded intake and exhaust system. To improve stopping power, the front brake system has been completely overhauled with twin floating discs and high-performance Discacciati calipers.
Interestingly, the original suspension was deemed adequate and left unaltered. This focused approach to modifications highlights a clear intent to enhance the motorcycle’s performance without sacrificing its core character.
