Tito Toivola, the Finnish custom bike builder known as Dark Shadow Garage, has created a stunning motorcycle based on a 1978 BMW R100/7. Despite being his first build, Toivola’s attention to detail and craftsmanship is evident in every aspect of this machine.

Acquired during the 2020 lockdowns, the R100/7 underwent a complete transformation, from the engine to the frame. The bike’s heart, a boxer twin engine, received a significant upgrade with a Siebenrock kit.

This performance enhancement was further complemented by the installation of DNA pod filters and a custom exhaust system. The combination of these modifications resulted in a substantial increase in power and torque.

To match the engine’s newfound capabilities, the frame also required attention. Toivola opted for a modern loop style subframe, which not only improved the bike’s handling but also allowed for a cleaner and more minimalist aesthetic. The bike’s lighting system was also modernized with bright dual function LEDs attached to the subframe and an additional lighting strip integrated into the rear.

The result is a custom motorcycle that seamlessly blends classic BMW styling with contemporary performance and technology. Toivola’s first build is a testament to his talent and passion for custom motorcycles, and it’s clear that he has a bright future in the industry.

The classic BMW R nineT has been transformed into a sleek cafe racer. A custom swingarm now accommodates the license plate, while piggyback YSS shock absorbers ensure a smooth ride.

The original forks remain in place, but they’ve been meticulously restored alongside the brakes and wheels. The latter are wrapped in Metzeler tires with gold lettering, providing excellent grip and enhancing the bike’s performance.

A smaller front fender and protective crash bars add to the bike’s aesthetic appeal and durability. These modifications not only improve the bike’s appearance but also enhance its functionality and riding experience.
