Gasoline Motor Co., known for its extravagant custom motorcycle projects, has demonstrated its ability to exercise restraint when necessary. The “Mr. Bungle” project, named after the American rock band, is a prime example of this approach.

Starting with a 2017 Harley-Davidson Sportster Roadster, the Sydney based shop sought to enhance the bike’s aesthetic without completely altering its original character. The first major modification was to the cockpit. A new low rise handlebar from Thrashin Supply, secured by a custom made clamp, replaced the stock handlebar.

An aftermarket speedometer housed in a black anodized billet aluminum housing from Rick’s Motorcycles was added to the new handlebar, along with adjustable control levers, Arlen Ness mirrors, and Dominion grips.

Kellermann Atto’s turn signals were discreetly mounted below the brake and clutch levers. A cafe racer-style fairing with a tinted windshield and a premium LED headlight completed the cockpit transformation. The Roadster’s original 43 mm upside-down forks were retained, providing a solid foundation for the custom build.

The custom Harley-Davidson Sportster underwent a comprehensive overhaul, featuring a host of modifications to enhance its performance and aesthetics. The stock shock absorbers were replaced with Black Edition parts equipped with piggyback reservoirs, providing superior damping and control. These modifications supported a modified subframe, which accommodated a sleek tail section, replacing the bulky rear fender.

The factory side covers remained in place further forward, adding a touch of classic styling. The OEM seat was swapped for a bespoke black leather alternative, offering improved comfort and a more premium look. A swingarm mounted license plate holder, featuring Kellermann dual function LEDs, completed the rear end equipment, providing essential lighting and a clean appearance. For added visual appeal, Dunlop DT3-R flat track tires were fitted to the wheels, enhancing traction and adding a touch of ruggedness.

The V-twin engine received significant performance upgrades, including an S&S teardrop style air cleaner, which improved airflow and increased power output. The original exhaust system was replaced with a Two Brothers Racing two into one setup, featuring a ceramic coated reverse megaphone muffler and carbon fiber tip.

This modification enhanced the engine’s exhaust note, providing a more aggressive and satisfying sound. Stylish engine covers were also added, further enhancing the bike’s aesthetic appeal. Finally, an all-black color scheme was applied to the entire bike, creating a sinister and menacing presence.

These modifications transformed the Harley-Davidson Sportster into a truly unique and eye-catching motorcycle. The combination of performance upgrades, aesthetic enhancements, and high-quality components resulted in a bike that is both powerful and visually stunning.
