While Ducati 900SS models from the nineties and early 2000s may not be considered aesthetically striking, their performance capabilities make them ideal platforms for custom builds. Giacomo Galbiati, an Italian craftsman operating as GDesign, has transformed a 2002 Ducati 900SS SuperSport into a visually stunning one off.

Despite being Italian, Galbiati’s previous projects focused on other brands. This was his first venture into customizing a Ducati, and the result is truly remarkable. Galbiati’s approach to the project was relatively subtle, yet it had a profound impact on the appearance of the motorcycle. He began by removing all of the factory bodywork except for the fuel tank and subframe.

The subframe was then replaced with a custom made alternative, and the rear bodywork was completely redesigned. The new rear bodywork consists of a handmade aluminum tail section that seamlessly complements the lines of the stock gas tank. A black leather saddle with blue stitching and a matching rear pad adorn the tail section. A compact license plate holder with integrated LED lighting is attached to the underside of the tail.

These modifications, combined with the removal of the original bodywork, give the Ducati 900SS a sleek and minimalist aesthetic. The Ducati’s striking transformation begins with a retro-inspired full fairing. Its multi piece design, topped with a clear windshield and a bulbous headlight cover, evokes a sense of nostalgia. A transparent plexiglass section reveals the bike’s trellis frame, adding a unique visual element.

A tiny front fender complements the new look, while handmade gauges, fresh grips, and bar end mirrors complete the cockpit. Preserving the bike’s original performance, GDesign retained and serviced the brakes and suspension. The L-twin engine received a thorough refurbishment, including open clutch and timing belt covers.

Ceramic coated exhaust headers and stainless steel aftermarket mufflers enhance the sound and style. The paintwork is a fascinating blend of silver, blue, and gold. The upper bodywork is adorned in silver, creating a sleek and modern appearance.

The frame, lower fairing, and smaller components are finished in blue, adding a touch of classic charm. Gold accents on the wheels and retro Ducati logos further enhance the aesthetic.

The combination of these design elements results in a Ducati that is both visually stunning and mechanically sound. The bike’s retro inspired styling is complemented by modern performance upgrades, making it a truly unique and desirable machine.
