It has to be mentioned that this is an exciting time for the Chevy Trax. The cheap compact SUV enters a new generation with the brand-new 2024 model.
The Chevy expands 11 inches longer and two inches wider, gains three inches of legroom in the second row, and adds six more cubic feet of storage capacity in the cargo area.
The spud-like body form of the previous model is gone, as is its optional all-wheel drive; this one is front-drive only.
At GM’s lowest pricing point across all of its brands, these dimensional adjustments produce a sporty, crisp design with a low-slung look that is comparable to more premium vehicles, including the new Chevy Blazer EV. Here are all the benefits of the brand-new Chevrolet Trax.
2024 Chevy Trax LS
The same 1.2-liter Ecotec turbocharged three-cylinder engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, is available in all Trax models.
This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. As with the Kia Soul, your only option is front-wheel drive.
The Trax LS trim may be identified from the outside thanks to its chrome external trim elements, non-sport grille, and non-black bowtie symbol.
The LS comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels but can also be had with 17-inch silver aluminum wheels, available active aero shutters, black mirror caps (although body color is also an option), an optional blackout package that darkens the Chevy bowtie and nameplate, and an optional Driver Confidence package that, perhaps controversially, does not include adaptive cruise control on this trim, but if an optioned trim, it does.
According to Chevy’s website, the LS cannot be ordered with the roof rails or the sunroof kit.
The good news is that for a starting price of $21,495 (including destination taxes), the base Trax LS model comes with a fair amount of equipment.
Chevy’s Safety Assist package, which includes features like Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and a Following Distance Indicator, is included for that money.
You also get active noise cancellation inside, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and wireless connectivity outside. Additionally, you receive basic items like bucket seats and a rear wiper.
The LS receives a smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen with a layout comparable to the other models in place of the 11-inch unit seen starting on the LT grade, so it’s not all awful.
Additionally, the LS lacks keyless entry, a wireless phone charging pad, and an 8.0-inch driver display that is standard in higher grades. Instead of six speakers, you get four, as well as GM’s OnStar emergency call system and optional heated seats (but the LS does not provide heated steering wheels).
2024 Chevy Trax 1RS
The Trax 1RS trim, which starts at $23,195, improves the exterior of the vehicle with fancy two-tone 18-inch wheels, a sportier grille with RS badging, black exterior accents, and a black Chevy bowtie, as well as red accents, and a flat-bottom steering wheel to make the interior stand out a little more than the LS’s interior, which is essentially a black box.
Unless you upgrade to a higher trim, there is still no internal wireless charging pad for a phone.
Although the 8.0-inch internal touchscreen in the 1RS is still the only option available, and there are only four speakers, heated front seats for the driver and passenger are standard, along with a heated steering wheel.
Remote start, rear carpet floor mats, and body-colored mirrors are also included as standard on the 1RS; in other words, all of the available features from the LS trim’s Convenience package are now included on the 1RS.
Although this model now has access to the sunroof package as an option, Adaptive Cruise Control is still not included; you must choose another option.
2024 Chevy Trax LT
You could purchase a far better equipment group for $200 more than the 1RS’s starting price. The larger 11-inch internal touchscreen and an 8.0-inch digital driver display are added to the LT, which starts at $23,395, over the standard LS model.
It is the trim that costs the least and comes with six standard speakers inside, automatic climate control as standard, and adaptive cruise control as an option if you choose the $795 driver confidence package.
Here, the normal blacked-out bowtie and nameplate from the 1RS is also a choice, and it is outfitted with 17-inch dual-tone wheels that differ from those on the 1RS in terms of style.
The $895 optional sunroof package is now unlocked, and you finally get standard roof rails with cross rails as an option in addition to wireless phone charging, both of which you’ll undoubtedly want. The LT is further characterized by silver exterior elements, and for an additional $595, you can choose the LT Convenience pack, which includes heated steering and seats as well as keyless entry.
Instead of the traditional cloth seats on cheaper grades, the seats now come with an Evotex/cloth blend.
2024 Chevy Trax 2RS
There is a 2RS trim specifically for you if you desire the extras that come with the improved LT but still prefer the way the sporty 1RS trim drives. It stands out thanks to its unique grille with RS badging, roof rails with optional cross rails, heated black door mirrors, and dark exterior trim. It also has 19-inch machined aluminum two-tone alloys and other distinguishing features.
With the exception of the Convenience pack, the 2RS provides the same performance as the rest of the Trax lineup and shares the same fundamental packages as the LT trim. The 2RS also has fully Evotex-covered seats and now comes standard with heated seats and steering.
To receive wireless charging, you must upgrade to the sunroof package, and to have adaptive cruise control, you must upgrade to the Driver Confidence package. The 2RS, which has a starting price of $24,995, is the first Trax model to have seatback pockets.
2024 Chevy Trax Activ
The all-new Trax Activ trim, which has a lower starting price than the base model and the sportier RS trims, also comes in at $24,995. Do not, however, be misled into believing that the Activ trim unlocks any more performance.
All-wheel drive is not an option for any Trax models, and the vehicle is still front-wheel drive and has the same amount of power. If you want all-wheel drive from Chevy at a reduced price, you must “upgrade” to the Trailblazer, which is a smaller SUV.
The modern Chevy Trax doesn’t even have a tow rating, but it doesn’t come with a tow hitch for a reason.
The Trax receives distinctive 18-inch all-black wheels, a distinctive black grille with Titanium-colored details, a black bowtie badge, and black lettering.
It comes standard with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, and it is the only Trax model that has an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat. Despite being the highest grade, you still need to pay more to add the sunroof package to receive wireless charging, and you need to add the Driver Confidence package to obtain adaptive cruise control.
Though a little slow, the 2024 Trax Activ FWD SUV was still enjoyable to drive, roomy inside, and surprisingly well-equipped for such a low price, according to our tester.
