Aston Martin is preparing to introduce a new high-performance supercar, adding to its lineup alongside the forthcoming Valhalla and the extreme Valkyrie hypercar. Autocar reports that the current Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is set to undergo a transformation for the next generation, evolving into a hardcore ‘bonafide supercar.’ This move is a bold attempt to differentiate it from the existing front-engined Vantage and DB12 models.

According to sources, the upcoming DBS iteration will retain its current twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 engine, delivering even more power than the formidable 566kW DBS 770 Ultimate. In contrast, the DB12 will exclusively feature Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8. While the replacement for the DBS is speculated to be named the Vanquish, it remains uncertain whether it will transition to a mid-engine supercar layout, potentially competing with the likes of the Ferrari 296 GTB.

Initial expectations suggested that the new DBS would maintain its front-engine, rear-drive configuration, evolving into a more potent rival for the Ferrari 812 Superfast. However, Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman has fueled speculation about a shift to a mid-engined setup, stating that the next DBS will be “completely different” from its predecessor.

There are additional rumors that, while the Vanquish might retain its current format, it could feature a full carbon-fiber body and an aggressive aerodynamic package, drawing inspiration from the limited Valour model. If this is the case, development costs may be shared with the existing DB12, potentially sharing the same cabin architecture.

The end date for production of the current DBS 770 Ultimate remains unknown, but there is speculation that a concept for the Vanquish could be unveiled in the coming year. Aston Martin seems poised to continue its tradition of producing high-performance, boundary-pushing vehicles, and enthusiasts eagerly await further details on this upcoming addition to the lineup.
