Owners of 2021–2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe models may find themselves grappling with an unexpected concern as Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, recently disclosed a potential fire risk. The revelation, stemming from a routine analysis of customer data, prompted an internal investigation that uncovered eight vehicle fires, leading to the recall of 32,125 U.S. units.
In the course of the investigation, Stellantis revealed that six out of the eight fires occurred while the plug-in-hybrid Wranglers were connected to chargers. Importantly, all incidents took place while the vehicles were parked and turned off, with Stellantis emphasizing no reported accidents or injuries resulting from these incidents.
This recall specifically targets certain Wrangler 4xe models equipped with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain housing a 14.0-kWh lithium-ion battery beneath the rear seats. Stellantis estimates that only 1 percent of the total production is affected. The remedy involves either a software update or the replacement of the entire battery pack.
Beyond the U.S., the recall extends to an additional 3,856 models in Canada and 9,249 units outside of North America. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive guidance on when to schedule the necessary service. Stellantis is actively addressing this issue, prioritizing the safety of Wrangler 4xe owners and ensuring the swift resolution of the identified fire risk.
