Chevrolet may not move as many Tahoes and Suburbans as its Silverado pickups or Equinox crossovers, but these full-size three-row SUVs remain lucrative for the company. Combined, they claim the third spot in Chevy’s product lineup, holding a 40 percent market share. Looking ahead to 2025, both models undergo a refresh, introducing noteworthy interior enhancements, a subtly revised exterior, and a revamped diesel powertrain. The lineup maintains its existing six trims: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country.
In terms of styling updates, the changes are discreet. The headlights are rearranged, with the main unit positioned lower in the bumper and the upper section dedicated to sharp LED daytime running lights. Premier and High Country models showcase a lighting animation upon approaching or walking away from the SUV, and the taillights sport a more defined graphic.
The grille designs received tweaks, and two new colors, Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic, joined the palette. The Z71 stands out with a sturdier front bumper featuring an improved approach angle, skid plate, red tow hooks, and Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires.
The focal point of the refresh is the cabin. The gear-selector switches transition from a series of buttons on the dashboard to a column-mounted stalk, freeing up space for the new standard 17.7-inch touchscreen. This display is angled toward the driver, similar to other new Chevrolets, and is complemented by a standard 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster. The entire instrument panel sits lower, enhancing visibility and creating a more open feel.
The screens’ crispness leads to a reconfigured center stack with sleeker air vents. Though an array of buttons remains, they are consolidated into a neat row below the vents, flanked by climate-control dials. RST models feature Victory Red stitching, while Premier models boast a new Jet Black and Sky Cool Gray interior color combo. The High Country model introduces new materials, including leather seats and real wood trim—a first for the Tahoe and Suburban—along with a unique Jet Black and Mocha appearance.
Under the hood, Chevy offers a heavily revised version of the Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six. Teamed with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, the six-cylinder now delivers 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
The gas-fed 5.3-liter V-8 (355 hp and 383 pound-feet) remains standard on several trims, while the 6.2-liter V-8 (420 hp and 460 pound-feet) is standard on the High Country and optional on other trims. Towing capacity remains at 8400 pounds for the Tahoe and 8200 pounds for the Suburban. New towing aids include a trailer-tire health monitor, a boat ramp-assist feature, and a navigation option dedicated to towing.
Chevy claims that the suspension and steering calibration has been refined for a smoother ride and enhanced feedback. Air suspension is now offered on the High Country, Z71, and RST trims. GM’s adaptive dampers return, standard on the Premier and High Country and optional on the RST and Z71. The 2025 models also introduce 24-inch wheels, available on the RST and High Country, among a total of nine new wheel designs.
Safety features are a highlight, with Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driving technology, offered as an option on several trims. A new interior motion detector aims to prevent passengers from being left in the rear seats, sending alerts if needed.
A proximity liftgate opens with a simple three-second presence near the rear of the car with the key. The Connected Cameras system allows owners to check on their vehicle remotely, including an interior view and crash recording capability. Standard safety assists like lane keep and emergency braking are included.
Production for the refreshed 2025 Tahoe and Suburban is set to commence in late 2024 at the Arlington Assembly plant in Texas, marking the facility’s 70th year of production next year. While pricing details are yet to be disclosed, minimal increases are anticipated over the outgoing models, with the 2024 Tahoe LS starting at $58,195 and the High Country at $78,895. The 2024 Suburban LS starts at $61,195, with the High Country opening at $81,895.
