Lonato (ITA), 16th January 2024: The upcoming international karting season is set to kick off at the South Garda Karting Circuit with the WSK Champions Cup, the first event on the WSK Promotion calendar.
This event, scheduled for the weekend of 21st January, marks the commencement of the 2024 season, featuring around 280 drivers representing 51 countries. These drivers will compete across various categories, including MINI, OKNJ, OKJ, OK, and KZ2.
The event boasts a substantial turnout of high-quality drivers. The season opener showcases an impressive lineup of drivers, with elite teams bringing in talented young prodigies, some of whom were victorious in the previous edition.
An example is Oleksandr Legenkyi from Ukraine, who, having transitioned from the Under 10 category, now competes in the MINI Gr.3. Turkish driver Iskender Zulfikari, after securing a win at the Champions Cup in MINI in 2023, is now trying his hand at OKJ.
England’s Lewis Wherrell, last year’s OKJ champion, is currently participating in the OK category. Cristian Bertuca is making a return to KZ2, while the second-year run of the federal category OKNJ sparks interest, with multiple MINI standouts moving up to the higher category among the main competitors.
The debut race for several drivers also brings new team associations. Notable champions, including Giuseppe Palomba, are vying for top positions, with some partnering with new teams.
Palomba, fresh from triumphs in the WSK Euro Series 2022 in KZ2, has joined Sodikart and is joined by new teammates, including French champion Emilien Denner.
Anticipated to be full of surprises, the tournament sees numerous rookies emerging from MINI, contributing to the overall excitement of the first event of 2024. This event serves as a preview for a season expected to be filled with thrilling moments.
On Sunday, January 21st, the prefinals and finals will be streamed live. Viewers can catch the races on the WSK Promotion Facebook page, as well as on the WSK, Motorsport.com, YouTube, and Vimeo platforms.
