The charmingly persistent Mazda MX-5 Miata continues its journey, and the year 2024 introduces several notable changes to this diminutive droptop.
While we had previously witnessed updates on the Japan-spec model, we now have comprehensive details on the U.S.-spec 2024 MX-5 Miata, encompassing pricing information and key alterations, both aesthetically and beneath the surface.
To refresh the Miata’s appearance, new LED headlights and taillights have been introduced, accompanied by fresh wheel designs. Additionally, there’s a new optional color named Aero Gray, available for an additional $450.
On the Grand Touring trim level, a tan Nappa leather upholstery option is now offered at an extra cost of $300. The interior enhancements include a more clearly marked gauge cluster and a larger 8.8-inch infotainment screen. Mazda has also incorporated additional padding on the center console.
In terms of mechanical updates, a new steering rack and revised software calibration for the steering’s electric-assist have been implemented.
Models equipped with the limited-slip differential now feature a new unit referred to as an “Asymmetric LSD,” promising improved stability and sharper cornering with reduced unwanted oversteer and understeer.
The stability control system introduces a new setting called “DSC-Track,” which elevates the intervention threshold. The performance of these new features will be closely observed through hands-on testing.
The powertrain remains unchanged, featuring an 181-hp 2.0-liter inline-four engine paired with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. The Grand Touring trim still offers a six-speed automatic, albeit at an additional cost.
Pricing has seen a slight increase, with the base Sport softtop model now starting at $30,150, up by $935. The Club softtop starts at $33,650, and the Grand Touring is priced at $35,450.
The RF retractable hardtop version comes with a higher starting price of $38,115 and is exclusively available in the upper trims.
An optional Brembo/BBS/Recaro package featuring upgraded brakes, wheels, and seats is available for $4800 on the Club softtop and is standard on the Club RF. Mazda has announced that the updated Miata will be available for purchase in the U.S. before the arrival of spring.
