Tesla Model Y Becomes The Best-Selling Vehicle In The World

Tesla, the renowned California-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer and one of Elon Musk’s earliest ventures, currently produces the world’s top-selling vehicle.

While comprehensive year-end sales data for numerous global markets is still pending, preliminary information gathered by Jato Dynamics and Car Industry Analysis suggests that the Tesla Model Y has secured the leading position. The finalized data is anticipated to be accessible in the second quarter.

Jato Dynamics, a data analyst specializing in global new car registration statistics, closely monitors the data. Despite the absence of figures for a few countries, Jato Dynamics bravely combines available data to formulate a conclusion.

It confidently asserts that the Tesla Model Y is highly likely to claim the title of the most popular new car globally in 2023. According to Jato Dynamics, the missing data is unlikely to alter this projection.

Based on preliminary figures, an impressive 1.23 million Tesla Model Y vehicles were registered worldwide last year, marking a substantial 64 percent increase from 2022. Notably, Tesla achieved remarkable success in China, delivering over 456,000 Model Y units in 2023.

Consequently, this bestseller surpasses the Toyota RAV4, which held the top position in 2022 with 1.02 million units delivered. Jato Dynamics’ early estimates indicate that the RAV4 is expected to see 1.07 million registrations in 2023, surpassing the previous year’s figures but falling short of reclaiming the first position.

Despite this, the Japanese model is still poised to secure a commendable second place. The Toyota Corolla secures the third position with 1.01 million units delivered.
