BMW is expanding its Highway Assistant as part of the Driving Assistant Professional package, enabling autonomous operation at speeds up to 135 km/h. Operating at Level 2 autonomy, the driver is still required to remain attentive, although the vehicle manages the driving process.
The Electric BMW i7 and BMW iX will now feature the Highway Assistant, accompanied by the Active Lane Change function. The latter only requires the driver to glance at the side mirror for the vehicle to execute a lane change.
This enhancement is not exclusive to electric models; gas-powered vehicles like the 7 series, BMW XM, BMW X5, BMW X6, and BMW X7 will also receive the Highway Assistant functionality.
BMW is introducing new digital services for vehicles equipped with the latest BMW OS9. The Siri voice assistant integration no longer necessitates button pressing. Additionally, the cloud-based BMW Maps will be updated to provide enhanced information about charging stations, including photos and ratings.
In certain European markets, BMW is incorporating digital parking and EV charging payments directly from within the car. This service extends to fuel payments in Germany.
The integration of BMW Digital Key Plus into the BMW App simplifies the process of importing map views from the phone to the vehicle. The maps’ search function has been revamped, promising more relevant results.
A notable addition is the E-mobility Analysis in the My BMW app. This feature analyzes driving style, habits, and environmental factors to recommend the most suitable electric vehicle when transitioning to EVs.
BMW’s comprehensive spring update encompasses both its vehicle fleet and digital services. The updates will begin rolling out to eligible vehicles in March, coinciding with deliveries of the new iX2 and i5 models.
