Mercedes F1 Team And Lewis Hamilton Will Part Ways At The End Of The 2024 Season

The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 Team and Lewis Hamilton are set to part ways at the conclusion of the 2024 season, as the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion has activated a release option stipulated in the contract unveiled in August of the previous year.

In an official statement by Mercedes, it was confirmed that the upcoming season will mark Lewis Hamilton’s final stint with the Silver Arrows, thereby concluding a remarkable 17-year association with Mercedes-Benz and an 11-year partnership with the team.

Reflecting on the decision, the 39-year-old British-born racing driver expressed gratitude for the incredible 11-year journey with the team and emphasized his pride in the accomplishments they achieved together.

Hamilton, who has been affiliated with Mercedes since the age of 13, acknowledged that the time has come for him to embrace a new challenge. He affirmed his unwavering commitment to delivering optimal performance during the forthcoming season, aiming to make his final year with the Silver Arrows a memorable one.

Hamilton stated, “I have had an amazing 11 years with this team, and I’m so proud of what we have achieved together. Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old.

But the time is right for me to take this step, and I’m excited to be taking on a new challenge. I am 100% committed to delivering the best performance I can this season and making my last year with the Silver Arrows one to remember.”

Toto Wolff, Team Principal and CEO, acknowledged the unprecedented success of the team-driver pairing, labeling it as the most successful in the history of the sport. He expressed pride in the achievements they have accomplished together and recognized Lewis Hamilton as an integral part of Mercedes motorsport history.

Wolff acknowledged that while they anticipated the eventual conclusion of their partnership, the focus remains on the upcoming season.
