Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, embarked on a journey to Beijing, China, to advance the implementation of the Lagos Blue and Red Line Rail Services agreements. The purpose of this trip is to fulfill the commitment to provide a comprehensive transportation system for the people of Lagos.
The Governor’s itinerary includes an inspection of the Signaling System and Metro projects currently underway in Beijing, undertaken by the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). This assessment aims to ensure the progress and quality of these crucial infrastructure developments.
Accompanying Governor Sanwo-Olu on this official trip is a delegation that features the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo. Together, they will engage in trade and investment discussions with the top officials of CCECC during a visit to the company’s headquarters.
Additionally, the agenda involves discussions on the acquisition of Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) for the Red Line and Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) for the Blue Line. This dialogue will take place between LAMATA, CCECC, and China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Dalian, further solidifying the partnerships involved in these transportation projects.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s official visit extends beyond Beijing, as he is scheduled to travel to Dalian later in the week. During this leg of the journey, he will visit the headquarters of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation and the CRRC Lvshun base. A high-level official meeting is planned with the Head of CRRC Dalian, focusing on collaboration and project advancements.
The Governor and his delegation are anticipated to return to Lagos within a week, armed with valuable insights and progress updates on the critical rail service developments that will significantly impact the transportation landscape in Lagos State.
