Formula One icon Lewis Hamilton is set to make a significant move in his racing career as he joins Scuderia Ferrari from Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 for the upcoming 2025 season. The seven-time world champion is slated to step into the shoes of Carlos Sainz, whose contract concludes at the end of 2024.
In the 2025 season, Hamilton will be partnering with Charles Leclerc, who recently inked a new long-term deal with Ferrari. This announcement follows Hamilton’s remarkable stint with Mercedes F1, where he notched up six of his seven championships since joining them from McLaren for the 2013 season.
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team officially confirmed Hamilton’s departure at the conclusion of the 2024 season after he activated a release clause embedded in his last year’s contract. Reflecting on his departure, Hamilton expressed gratitude, saying, “I have had an amazing 11 years with this team, and I’m so proud of what we have achieved together. Mercedes has been part of my life since I was 13 years old.”
Despite bidding farewell to Mercedes, Hamilton remains focused on delivering his best performance in the upcoming season, emphasizing his commitment to making his final year with the Silver Arrows a memorable one.
The 39-year-old driver leaves behind a legacy with Mercedes, having won an impressive 82 out of his record-breaking 103 races during his tenure with the team.
