Albon tied to Williams until the end of F1 2025, clarifies Vowles

Following his remarkable performances with Williams, Albon had been rumored to make a comeback to Red Bull in 2025, as Sergio Perez’s current seat alongside world champion Max Verstappen remains vacant.

Amid uncertainty regarding Albon’s contract status, which was speculated to render him a free agent at the end of 2024, Lewis Hamilton’s surprising move to Ferrari also brought the 27-year-old into consideration as a potential candidate for Mercedes.

However, during the media session at the unveiling of Williams’ 2024 livery, Vowles emphasized that Albon is committed to the team until the conclusion of the 2025 season.

“Alex has committed to Williams until the end of 2025. That’s a done deal,” Vowles asserted.

“It’s not something we’ve publicized extensively because it hasn’t felt necessary. So, any speculations you come across, particularly one, are just that – speculations.

“As I’ve mentioned before, at Williams, our objective is to establish an environment that warrants someone of Alex’s caliber. It’s as simple as that.

“He is an exceptional driver deserving of a spot towards the front. He and I frequently discuss our path forward.

“We aim to embark on a journey together within this team for the long haul. However, we recognize that we must earn that privilege. It’s not bestowed upon us automatically.

“We need to demonstrate to the world that we’re not dwelling on the past; instead, we’re relentlessly progressing forward.”

When questioned if his contract ensures he will stay with the team in 2025, Albon responded, “Let’s wait and see. Time will tell.

“For now, my focus is squarely on 2024. The primary objective is to ensure progress for 2025. That’s where my attention lies.

“Realistically, I aspire to remain with the team. If the team meets my expectations, it could potentially lead to a long-term commitment.

“We’re in it for the long haul or nothing at all. That’s my perspective.”

Vowles refrained from explicitly stating if he would consider releasing Albon if a viable deal arose, underscoring his commitment to prioritize the team’s interests.

“Would I hinder his progress? My allegiance lies with Williams; that’s my paramount concern,” he affirmed.

“It’s not about catering to the needs of one individual, in this instance, Alex. It’s about serving the team’s best interests.

“So, if any decision leans in that direction, it’s because I firmly believe it aligns with the team’s long-term aspirations rather than short-term gains.”
