Many racing enthusiasts fondly reminisce about the golden age of racing in the 1980s and ’90s, a time that sparks nostalgia and admiration for the skilled drivers who maneuvered the powerful machines of that era.

Today, several automakers aim to capture that nostalgic essence by recreating modern interpretations of classic vehicles. Audi joins this endeavor with the 2025 RS6 Avant GT, a model crafted to evoke the same sense of wonder as the legendary Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car it pays homage to.

While some may long for the 700-plus horsepower and distinctive side-mounted exhaust of its inspiration, the 621 horsepower provided by the Avant GT should prove more than satisfactory.

The eye-catching multicolored livery and white wheels immediately grab attention, but a closer inspection of the RS6 Avant GT reveals significant alterations to this super station wagon. Resembling the 2020 Audi RS6 GTO concept car, originally conceived by a team of 12 Audi apprentices with guidance from Audi Design, the GT boasts notable changes.

Similar to the GTO concept, the large double wing adorning the rear of the car instantly recalls the prominent feature of the 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car. Up front, a new grille and a gloss black air intake catch the eye, while an aggressive front splitter integrated into the GT’s leading edge adds to its demeanor.

Redesigned hood and front fenders now sport carbon fiber finishes, with cutouts at the fender’s rear aiding brake cooling by reducing air pressure.

Available in three exclusive decal designs, the Avant GT showcases its uniqueness. The first design combines Arkona white with Audi Sport’s signature black, gray, and red accents. Alternately, Nardò gray and Mythos black options are paired with gloss-black and matte-black wheels, respectively.

Inside, the Avant GT boasts Audi’s RS Design Package Plus as standard, featuring a black interior accentuated with red and copper stitching on the steering wheel, center console, armrests, and floor mats. Continuing the carbon-fiber theme, the standard front buckets of the RS6 Avant Performance are replaced with exclusive carbon-fiber bucket seats in the Avant GT.

While the RS6 Avant Performance sets the performance benchmark, the Avant GT’s specifications are slightly less exhilarating. Sharing the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, the GT delivers 621 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque to the Quattro all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The rear axle’s quattro sport differential has been specially tuned for the RS 6 Avant GT, complemented by adjustable coil-over shocks that lower the car by nearly half an inch compared to the standard RS6 Avant.

In contrast to the fully automated production line of the standard RS6 Avant Performance, the final assembly of the Avant GT is meticulously carried out by hand. Globally, production is limited to 660 units, with 85 allocated for the United States and seven for Canada.

While final pricing for North America is pending, Audi has confirmed a starting price equivalent to just under $235,000 in Germany, with deliveries scheduled to commence in the spring.
