As Rivian gears up to unveil its forthcoming compact SUV, the R2, next month, attention remains steadfast on its larger counterparts, the R1T and R1S. Notably, both vehicles have received a boost with the introduction of a new battery option, resulting in more accessible entry-level pricing.
Joining the R1S and R1T lineups are two new entry-level trims: Standard and Standard+. The Standard variant boasts a smaller 106-kWh battery pack, delivering an estimated 270 miles of range on a single charge, and is exclusively paired with the 533 hp twin-motor powertrain, maintaining its acceleration time to 60 mph at 4.5 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Standard+ trim offers versatility with options for both the 533 hp powertrain and the 665 hp Performance version. Equipped with a 121 kWh battery pack, the Standard+ trim offers up to 507 km of range with the 533 hp setup on standard 21” rims fitted with road tires.
Opting for 22” wheels reduces the range to 483 km, while the 20” wheels with all-terrain tires, available exclusively with the 655 hp powertrain, offer a range of 451 km.
These new battery configurations expand the R1T and R1S lineup to four distinct versions, complementing the existing Large trim with its 135 kWh capacity and the Max option featuring a 149 kWh battery.
Moreover, both the R1S and R1T Standard models are now eligible for a partial EV federal tax credit of $3,750, positioning them as the most budget-friendly Rivians to date.
Here’s a breakdown of the models, batteries, power, range, and prices:

March 7th heralds a significant milestone in Rivian’s young history. The company is poised to debut its smaller SUV in the North American market at a considerably lower starting price.
The R2 is just the inaugural vehicle to utilize the new platform, with more models slated for release. While Rivian had previously hinted at a starting price around $40,000 for the R2, as often observed, pricing commitments may evolve over time.
