Afeela, the collaborative endeavor between Sony and Honda, set to venture onto U.S. roads by 2026, unveiled an updated iteration of its inaugural offering—an as-yet-unnamed electric sedan—at CES 2024.
This reveal not only showcased a refined design but also divulged more specific details about its powertrain. However, recent insights from Nikkei Asia shed light on Afeela’s ambitious roadmap, disclosing plans for two additional electric vehicles to debut within this decade.
As per the newspaper’s report, the Afeela sedan is slated for its grand entrance in 2025, with orders expected to commence that year.
However, actual sales in the U.S. are projected to kick off in 2026. Following suit, 2027 will witness the introduction of Afeela’s second offering—a compact SUV anticipated to share significant DNA with its electric sedan counterpart.
By 2028, at the earliest, a more budget-friendly compact model is set to hit the market, with proportions akin to those of a Toyota Corolla. These forthcoming models will leverage a shared platform to optimize cost efficiency and accelerate development timelines.
Moreover, the compact model is likely to draw upon components from Honda’s EV lineup, reflecting a strategic synergy between the two entities. Notably, to maintain affordability, certain features and functionalities may be omitted from the compact model, as per the report.
The sedan is poised to lead the charge into the market, with initial pricing expectations previously hovering around $45,000. However, Nikkei Asia’s latest intelligence suggests a starting price exceeding 10 million yen in the Japanese market, translating to approximately $66,000.
Equipped with all-wheel drive facilitated by a pair of 241-horsepower electric motors—one on each axle—the Afeela sedan will boast a robust 91.0-kWh battery capable of rapid charging at up to 150 kW.
