The new-generation BMW 5 Series has been released, but fans of the M sub-brand are eagerly awaiting the next M5. The upcoming model will be available in two body styles – station wagon (Touring) and sedan – and both will be available in North America.
The BMW M5 Touring will pose stiff competition to the current Audi RS 6 Avant and the next-generation RS 7 Avant, as well as the Mercedes-AMG E 63 wagon.
Spy shots of both variants reveal sportier front and rear ends compared to the standard 5 Series, with different bumpers, tweaked grilles, sporty diffusers at the rear, and exclusive color options and wheels adorned with M logos.
Underneath, the next M5 boasts a re-tuned chassis for improved cornering, with uprated brakes providing superior stopping power.
Reports suggest it will feature an electrified V8, potentially the same as the one powering the BMW XM, with rumors of around 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. If true, this would likely surpass the current M5 CS and potentially achieve a 0-60 mph sprint in under three seconds.
Production of the all-new M5 is slated to begin this summer, starting with the sedan variant followed by the Touring in November, making both models 2025 releases for the United States. Rendering artists have already begun to imagine its design, with digital illustrations providing a glimpse into its visual appearance.
