Indian billionaire Niranjan Hiranandani made an unconventional choice recently by opting for a public train ride instead of his usual chauffeur-driven limousine to navigate through Mumbai City’s infamous traffic.
The 73-year-old real estate magnate, with a net worth of $1.5 billion as of 2024, is renowned as the co-founder and managing director of Hiranandani Group.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, Hiranandani documented his 30-minute journey from Mumbai to Ulhasnagar, highlighting his decision to utilize the city’s lifeline to save time and bypass traffic.
“Opting for the city’s lifeline to save time and beat traffic, I embarked on a journey from Mumbai to Ulhasnagar in an AC coach, gaining valuable personal insights along the way,” he expressed.
The video showcased Hiranandani and his team boarding the train alongside fellow passengers, with moments captured of him engaging with commuters during the ride.
While some commended his choice to utilize public transport despite his affluent status, others questioned his preference for the Air Conditioned coach. One user humorously speculated that he likely traveled during non-peak hours when passenger volume was lower.
Comments on the video ranged from jesting about wealthy individuals documenting rare train rides to inquiries about the chauffeured SUV that may have awaited him at Ulhasnagar station.
Despite varying opinions, Hiranandani’s decision to experience public transportation firsthand sparked discussions on social media, with users offering alternative suggestions for future journeys, including trying non-AC trains during peak hours for a more authentic experience.
