YangWang Uses Six U9s To Show Off 360° Tank-turn, Weeks After Mercedes Used 4 Electric G-Class’ To Do “G-Turn”

BYD’s YangWang brand has recently unveiled a remarkable demonstration, showcasing the capabilities of its forthcoming U8 electric SUV model. Utilizing six U8 SUVs, the display highlighted the vehicle’s impressive 360-degree tank-turn feature.

This event follows closely on the heels of Mercedes-Benz’s own demonstration involving four Electric G-Class vehicles performing a maneuver dubbed the “G-Turn.”

The YangWang U8, equipped with 1,100 horsepower, not only executes the eye-catching tank turn but also boasts the ability to drive sideways.

This lateral movement is achieved by rotating the front and rear tires on each side of the vehicle in opposing directions. Furthermore, the U8 offers a unique “float mode,” enabling it to navigate through water and is capable of floating for up to 30 minutes in emergencies.

In addition to these attention-grabbing features, the U8 SUV includes a crab mode reminiscent of the Hummer EV, along with the capability to maintain speeds of up to 75 mph (120 km/h) even with a flat tire, thanks to its run-flat tires.

Priced from $145,000 and available in Premium and Off-road Master Editions, the YangWang U8 presents a luxurious option in the electric SUV market. Its design, reminiscent of the Defender style, positions it as a contender against the anticipated 2024 release of the Mercedes-Benz EQG, an all-electric version of the G-Class.

This unveiling by YangWang follows Mercedes-Benz’s recent showcase at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where the German automaker presented four camouflaged production prototypes of its G-Class executing the “G-Turn.” With both companies pushing the boundaries of electric SUV performance, competition in this sector promises to be intense.
